• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Calibrating SBuilderX screen captures for Gmax

Couldn't find anything regarding this subject so let me ask here - when adding a background map do the Zoom levels equal a certain meters per pixel ratio, for example does Zoom 19 = 30cm/pp?

Trying to find an easy way to determine pixel size for calibration when using these captures over to Gmax as 1024x1024 airport ground polys.

Thx,

Hi Clutch.

Luis Sa could best answer this. But for now, the short answer is don't use these images in Gmax.

First, you can't legally redistribute them, so the images can only be for your own use.

Secondly, the projection used in these maps is geographic in nature. Distances are measured in latitude and longitude... not in meters or feet. You would have to reproject the images to ( perhaps ) UTM to get images that are not distorted. There are graphic programs that can rubber-sheet ( manually stretch ) these types of images, as well as some that can reproject.

You can Google for info about map tile scales, and projections used, but be prepared for complex and even misleading answers.

Thinking on this... why not just resize/cut the textures into 1024x1024 sizes? Gmax will let you map the textures which takes care of any stretching, and you don't need to know the distance-size of the images.

thx rhumbaflappy,

for the feedback. These are being used just as background guidelines for my airport. Not planning to distribute them. Also, I have not detected any distortion when using them?

Maybe I am over-thinking this? I think I did what you suggested. Made some screen captures. Sliced them up into 1024x1024 segments. Started creating 1024x1024 polys in Gmax. I'll throw some of those textures on 'em to see if that works.

I'll see if Luis Sa jumps in with an answer if those Zoom levels represent standard per pixel definitions. I figured I will need to know (maybe down the road) what scale of back ground maps I am working at.
