• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Can tranparency of gp polys be adjusted?

My uses are pretty simple, and this is just fantastic for my projects. For us "lurkers", the last few weeks' discussion have been incredibly informative. Where do you guys find the time!!!???

I have one issue which was, I think, addressed early on, before Don's travel time, but I can't find it.

At most "levels" of gp polys, I cannot see library objects, or even the cursor when I am trying to place them, "through" the GP (ie, cars or static aircraft on a tarmac/parking lot). This presents even more of a challenge for me than usual!!

I've searched the manuals, tried changing transparency on most everything in option/colors of ADE... If I hide the poly, I can see the objects (image #2), but then I don't see the edges of the polyl

In the attached pictures image 1 is with the poly displayed, image two with the poly hidden.

I'm sorry if this has been addressed

And thanks again for a wonderful tool, and the fabulous questions and answers--and for the unbelievable effort you are making.

I've commented before, but if the hospital system I frequent had an IT department with you guys.....our record system might actually work!!

Hi,

And sorry but as you said yourself:), we have been rather busy:rolleyes:.
I believe, though not sure, that Jon was going to create transparent colors for gp-objects as well but I guess he has not had time to do it.
There were requests for other changes that were honored as a result of our constantly bugging him for them:D.

If you have a ProKey then you can use the Custom Hide feature to hide specific objects from view so you can just hide one poly or line. In This case you can get hidden objects back temporarily using a key.

Finally (also if you have a ProKey) you can use the new feature that unlocks the display layer constraints. This allows you to move a poly back behind the library objects. This is probably the best answer at the moment

To answer the original question - ADE controls the color of polys based on the GP Layer. While there is control over transparency for most objects displayed in ADE there isn't for GP polys right now.

Make sure to update the beta to the version I just posted today

Thanks

I do have prokey. I have been hiding the ploys and that works pretty well...sometimes I forget where the edge is.

I've been reading about the layer options--will try to figure it out

Busy?? You guys are simply amazing! I need to find a few (junior) partners with your work ethic and I could just sit back and pretend I was working. You are each doing sooooooo much.

Take care of yourself first!! This is a doctor's order!!

Make sure you have updated to 1.60.4900.

Go to Settings > Options and Check 'Ignore Layer Constraints'

Now you should be able to select a poly and then Right Click > Move Back etc.

To restore the objects to their usual drawing layer use Right Click > Reset Default Drawing Layers.

If you uncheck the 'Ignore Layer Constraints' then you will return ADE to using the controlled layers.

In the spirit of offering an alternative that does not require a ProKey.

Use position markers and/or guidelines to identify the perimeter of the poly and then use the view menu to hide the poly.

BTW using transparency in the poly would not let you select something through it since the graphics engine sees the surface of the poly as part of the poly and will select that rather than anything under it.

So if you can't move it back use markers and guidelines to mark the perimeter and then hide the poly via the View Menu.
