Can you mask a 4.8m photo texture...

Can you mask a 4.8m photo texture to have the default FS9 land texture show through in certain areas? (not talking watermasking here). Thought I read ions ago where you could or in fact have it blend into your lo-res 4.8m texture? (DXT5?)

If you can I sure haven't found the right combo of masking color and alpha color. Any ideas be appreciated.

thx,

Hello,

SBuilder creates the photo scenery as VTP squares. If the original images have an alpha mask, the phto tiles can blend to the default (alpha = white means full opaque and alpha = black means full transparent). The Help file has more details on this,

Kind Regards, Luis

That's what I thought but then I thought maybe that is only for water. I will try it again to see if I can get it to blend. At least now I know you can - so it must be "User Error"! :p

I did this a couple years ago on a scenery I did of Washington DC mall area. I'm a little foggy now on exactly what I had to do. The hard part was getting the textures in the right format. Looking at some notes, I see that the texture bitmaps had to be run through imagetool with the -8 option, 8 bit palletized with alpha. I'm not sure if sbuilder did that for me, or I had to do it myself.

Hi Scott,

I remember you and your scenery. If my memory serves me correct I was trying to pry from you on how you were able to use SBuilder with Hi-Res WITHOUT blurries or edgelines? I never could solve that issue. Sadly, that is the one thing I wish I could fix before release but oh well....

But as for the lo-res 4.8m I thought I would take a last minute 2nd look to see if I could blend in my photoreal into the FS9 default to smooth out some edge lines. I tired saving the files a lot of different ways using SBuilder but I don't think I tried the 888 type which I think you are referring to. Will give a quick go at it tonight again.
