Hi,
It has been a long time since I work on FS9 version. I have finish a project in FSX and want to convert to FS9 version. I have a trouble attaching effect in FS2004 game pack. I used the MaxScript in FS2004 gamepack and try attaching effect that I use in FSX. Nothing came out. I tried with default effect and nothing came out either. No warning during export and the model look fine. What could be the cause of that. May be something wrong with the script? I try to find FS2004 gamepack and reinstall but it is not in download section anymore. What should I do?
Regards,
Tic

If you load the mdl in MCX do you see the effect?

Yes, Arno. I can see the red dot of attachment in MCX but I cannot see it in FS9.
I use effect file from FSX put it to FS9 effect folder and put texture to Effects/texture folder.
I try attaching default effect (nav light) by using MCX, I don't see it in FS9 either.
Very strange.

Did you add any effect parameters?

And sometimes a reload of the scenery helps to show missing effects.

No, I did not add any parameter to test it. But none is visible. Is it possible that attach tool script is not working or gamepack is corrupted?

Since you see them in MCX I don't think there is a problem with the gamepack actually. Is the attached effect away from other geometry maybe? I have seen before that they don't appear when they are at the outside of the bounding box.

I don't know what wrong with it. Even I merge Effect-Attached boxes from my previous project and export them with new model, I cannot see the effect at all in my WMKK airport. Are those effect are excluded by something? Since any thing with effect attached cannot be seen in the airport at all.

Hi,

An exclude file can indeed make effects not show up, quite mysteriously. If there is an exclude file listed alphabetically before the attached effect file, that effect can be excluded. Those exclude files need to be listed last. If this doesn't work, try it the opposite way (my memory is dim about this).

Silly me!
Thanks Tom for the information. I looked back in ADE file and I did an exclusion for "ALL". I did exclude all the effect out of the airport. Everything works fine now.

Ah yes, that FS2004 exclude bug :). Almost forgot about that.

Glad to help.

We actually use it to our advantage sometimes. We place ships with smoke coming out of the stacks. We then use an exclude file to eliminate the smoke on ships docked at ports. Two versions for the price of only one model. :)
