• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Can't get SDK SP1a to install

When I click on the SDK_SP1a icon to install it the mouse cursor blinks with the hourglass for a split second and nothing happens. I even tried installing from the Acceleration disk. I have all the Windows XP updates but am I missing something that wont let me install it? Maybe an installer?

I hate to ask, but you do have the original ver. (found on disc 1 of FSX Deluxe) installed? If so, I would suggest to re-download the file. The one you have may be corrupted.

I have had no problems in the two updates finding the program and updating them.

Yep I had the first SDK installed. It is like the installer wont even run. I got the SDK and SDK_SP1a installed on my other windows installation. But FSX is on the other. :( I will try coping the SDK_SP1a from my acceleration disc and see If I can get that one to run.

I got the SDK's to install and now have SDK_SP2 installed. When I go into FSX my tools menu does not show up. I posted my DLL. Anyone see anything wrong with it?

Hi Folks

UtahJazzfan -
Follow the steps at FSX in-game Tools menu section of the Wiki link posted above.

I'am going to assume that FSX and SDK are located in the under the same folder (i.e. Microsoft Games).

If not, you will need to spell out correctly where the SDK program is located.
Also, you need to change the "traffictoolbox" and visualfxtool" disable key to "FALSE".

ex:

<Launch.Addon>
<Name>Object Placement Tool</Name>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
<Path>C:\program files\microsoft games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>
<Launch.Addon>
<Name>Traffic Toolbox</Name>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
<Path>C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>
<Launch.Addon>
<Name>Visual Effects Tool</Name>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
<Path>c:\program files\mircrosoft games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>
<Launch.Addon>
<Name>FSUIPC 4</Name>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<Path>Modules\FSUIPC4.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>

My FSX folder and SDK folder are on different disc, so if yours are not under the same folder, you will need to tell the DLL.XML file where to find the SDK folder.

Hope this helps.

I have tried everything. Is there something I need to do with SimConnect? Or anything else I need to install?

I went back through the SDK Installation Wiki and looked in the fsx.cfg file. I also remembered that FSX never asked me If it was ok to run the these programs. Here is what I have in the .cfg file

[Trusted]
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll.uoohornbtbznohehraneicqabritulklcenlwqcn=0
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll.akturklhhcibwirnrrwneablolezonkeukwnoucb=0
C:\program files\microsoft games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll.wzarhuohilekanirureuwuruqaazilhqeqqbanlh=0
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll.uwzulhkqirteuaeuuqoehrelwakwqzoqhwwoihoh=0
C:\program files\microsoft games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll.toktwonbnareonbwonhbricqrcbwqqeaurouriea=0

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll.ronrlqrownkcotniwkiznbrzrcctcantelqknonn=0

When I change those all to 1 only the object placement tool comes up in the tools menu but I also get these error messages and I have to close FSX.
----
dxdiag.exe
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150004). Click on OK to terminate the application.

When I try to put these lines in the tools menu does not appear.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll.LONGSTRING=1

Hi Folks

When I try to put these lines in
the tools menu does not appear.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\Object_Placement.dll.LONGSTRING=1
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll.LONGSTRING=1
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll.LONGSTRING=1
Wiki -
Where LONGSTRING is a 'meaningless' alphanumeric string.

In fsx.CFG [TRUSTED] section -
* Remove all the SDK entries

In dll.xml
* Remove all non-SDK addon entries.
* Set disabled to false

Launch FSX.

When prompted,
allow each of the 3 sdk tools to always run.

After following the steps above FSX still won't prompt me If I wish to run them.(very strange) So I go into the fsx.cfg file and edit the 0's to 1's. I go back into FSX but only the OBT and FX tool show up and no traffic toolbox. If I try to run the OBT I get the errors I posted above. Let me reinstall the SDK and see If can get it working.

I really appreciate the help BASys.

EDIT: Looks like reinstalling did the trick. All tools show up now and seem to be working. FSX still did not ask me If I wanted to run them. Is this normal with SP2?

Thanks again for all the help.
