Hello everyone.

I wanted to ask if any of you have experience with CGTrader as a sales platform.
I occasionally buy a 3D model there myself and am happy with the design of the site and the purchase process.
From a buyer's perspective, I have had good experiences.

I would like to sell the characters I have created so far on CGTrader.
But what happens if I want to sell something there? Does anyone have experience with this? Does anyone sell their 3D models on CGTrader?

Hello Boba, thank you for your answer.
Great models, the Antonov immediately catches my eye!

First of all, I'm interested in how reliable CGTrader is when it comes to processing payments. Then the question about the set price and finally the exchange formats.

1: How does CGTrader pay out? Do I have to have earned a minimum amount that is then paid out to me at the end of the month? How is the payment made, via PayPal or bank transfer?

2. CGTrader takes 30% of the income as commission at the beginning, right? There are additional fees, which are probably taxes.
Assuming I want to get EUR 3.50 for a model, how high would I have to set the price to get to my EUR 3.50?

2. At the moment I offer these exchange formats:
- max
- FBX
- DAE
- OBJ

Is there anything to consider here?

At the moment I'm actually only offering 2 of my models there: Female Character Low-poly 3D model
Before I offer all of my characters there, I would like to have my questions answered :)

Hi Christian,

from my experience CGTrader is quite reliable platform. I would try to answer your questions.

1) CGTrader pays its sellers monthly, typically around the 20th day of the month, for the sales made in the previous month. To receive a payout, you generally need to reach a minimum threshold of $50. The payment can be made via PayPal or bank transfer, depending on your preferred method set in your account settings. Keep in mind, fees may apply depending on your chosen payout option.

2) If you want to earn €3.50 after CGTrader’s commission and other fees, you'll need to factor in their 30% commission (commission depends on reputation points that you are collecting) and possible additional taxes or transaction fees. Commission fee ist between 30% for beginners and 20% for most advanced sellers.
So, to get €3.50 after CGTrader's commission, you'd need to set the price at €5.00.
Keep in mind that transaction fees or taxes may slightly affect this amount, depending on your country and the payment method.

I don't see any other concerns, you have to type VAT -> USt-IdNr if you have it in payment method and that's it.

Please feel free to ask if you have any additional question.

Best Regards,

Good to know, thanks!

I've now simply added the CGTrader flat rate commission of 30 percent to the 3.50 EUR and come to a price of 4.55 EUR and with the small fee for taxes of 0.77 cents, I'll be surprised whether I'm also charged for them :-)
As for the format, I'm still experimenting with the DAE format. Characters with animations are also to be offered. And FBX and DAE are probably suitable for that.
I'll gradually add my models there over the next few days and I'm excited!

So far, thank you very much for your information. I'm sure I'll have one or two more questions :)

Considering file formats I would prefer FBX as most common file format for animations, especially for character animation. It could also embed textures. I am in gaming industry for many years and .fbx is kind of standard, at least in game development. I am looking forward to see your products.

Best Regards

I have just tested it again extensively and conclusively. The FBX and DAE formats are similar. Both formats can save animations. Works great!
One of the two characters Female 12 (Female 12 - Animated) now has 5 animations and is available for a slightly higher price than Female Character 4 without animations.
I also hope, of course, that the prices are not too high. After all, you want to make a good and fair offer.

A question about Blender. How important is Blender?
There are quite a few developers who use Blender. So it might be advisable to have this format available too, right?

In my opinion, a Blender file is unnecessary unless you are using specific Blender modifiers that are only supported by the .blend format. The .dea (DAE) and .fbx formats are more universal and sufficient for most software. Additionally, keep in mind that FBX can contain multiple animation takes, rather than just a single, long animation of a fixed length per take. However, as I know, only Maya and MotionBuilder are capable of creating multiple takes in FBX.

I didn't know that FBX supports multiple animations, I've learned something new again 👍

The idea was that not all developers, especially beginners, might not be familiar with formats and make mistakes. Opening a native .blend file, on the other hand, works immediately.
But... the FBX file that I imported into Blender works perfectly, so I'll think about it again with Blender, it was just a thought anyway :)

i sell there and have been for a while. my 777 is a top seller amongst aircraft actually :P quite happy with the site. they recently changed paypal to hyperwallet which adds and extra unneccesary step and incurs a small extra processing fee but apart from that i'm happy. stay away from fab, epic games all-in-one (was unreal/sketchfab/artstation) marketplace. its trash.

Hi,
I don't quite understand the PayPal Hyperwallet thing. Is it about the payment system for customers or is it about transferring the revenue to my account?
Are these "hidden" costs and if so, can they be avoided, for example by using the bank details for the transfer instead of PayPal?

afaik hyperwallet is their only payout options. you can from there then transfer to paypal or a bank account. not 100% on this but pretty sure there is no other option from the portal itself.

All right, thanks. Then I'll make sure to make the payments to my bank account. Unfortunately, I'm always charged a hefty fee when making payments to my PayPal account.
