• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Changing Default Creator / Company - where is it stored?

I had to reinstall my MSFS2020 to move it from one drive to another and, since doing so, the default creator and company entries in the Dev Mode Project Editor are blank, with red error text for the titles.

Entering values into the boxes in the Project Editor, the text is red and cannot be saved - even tabbing to the next box deletes the text I just entered. I can't

Presumably this information is stored in a xml or json file somewhere - can anyone tell me where, so I can edit it manually, please? Otherwise, anyone know how to force the SDK to ask me to input them again? It really isn't happy with them not being there.

Cheers,

Ian P.

Many thanks.

The fact that I don't have that file is probably the heart of the problem.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the SDK, but will try it again, just in case second time lucky!

Cheers,

Ian P.

Is the directory set to read only? I think that should have been created when you reinstalled the sim.

I've found it - it was in an entirely different path structure than either MSFS2020 itself, or user profiles, but on the same drive as the custom install path for MSFS. Editing that (it was the top two lines of the first section for me) has corrected the issue.

Many thanks again - problem - hopefully - resolved.

Now I can try rebuilding my scenery later today.

Cheers,

Ian P.

I'm having a similar problem. I've installed SDK at least 3 times hoping that it would fix it but no joy. When I bring up a new project the Create New Project window shows up but just like you all, the Dafault creator name and the Default company name are red. I can enter a Project name but the red fields will not retain any value and the Create new project button at the bottom of the window is always greyed out so I can't proceed.

I did a system wide search for the DevMode.xml file and I did find one but it was not in the AppData folder you specified. I can't seem to find anything on my machine that resembles that path. The DevMode.xml file I found appears to be created when the sim is started because I try to edit the values which I do find in there but when I restart the sim the date stamp for the file gets changed to the current time and all edits I made are obviously gone so I don't think that's the correct file.

I would love to be able to create/edit a project but I can't seem to figure out how to get past this issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The directory/ folder is hidden. You will need to unhide it first.

What is the path where the file should be? I have changed the setting in the explorer view "options" to view hidden files but I still don't see anything. The path provided by Rotornut44 is not complete, it just starts at AppData/...

The DevMode is part of the sim. Uninstalling, re-installing the SDK does nothing to the DevMode. The SDK is simply documentation and examples.
%AppData%\Microsoft Flight Simulator\DevMode.xml opens the XML for me.

The other location for DevMode config is

C:\Users\nnnnn\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState

However, clicking on DevMode /Reset setting should reset the creator name too (not in front of the game at the moment to try that)

Did anyone figure this out? I get a blank company and crator name with red asterisk and it is not editable, cant fill in the blanks.

Cant create new perojects from Dev Mode as a result.

Thanks!

I use an app named Everything
It's a bit of a misnomer, as it finds anything. It can be directed to search your PC for files. It can even search for files with specific words within the file. It can look for folders. Here, it looks for the file
'devmode' with the extension of 'xml' and containing the word 'creator'

You can right-click on the find and go to the folder, open the file, rename the file...

Oh I can find the files and add the entries.....but they dont do anything and the file reverts back.

You can also delete the Devmode.xml and the sim creates a new one when it starts up.
