• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX changing pilot

Hi,

Once in a while I like to joke around and so I thought of changing the pilot's face of the FS2004 Blériot, send a (with sepia filter converted) screenshot with photoreal background to a friend that knows nothing about FS but is a collector of postcards and newspaper cuttings of historical aircraft.
In short, I wanted to make him happy with a (faked, of course) historical photo.
So I opened the Blériot_FS9_PILOT_t.BMP with DXTBMP, sent it to the editor (paint.net) and edited the picture cutting out the pilot's face with moustache and pasting my own without moustache and saving it again as a DXT1.bmp equal to the original one.
To my surprise, my right side is moustacheless and a picture of me but the left side still is the original moustached pilot!
Can anyone explain how come (I took the original bmp out of the aircraft folder and saved it elsewhere)?
The above reads like I am joking again, but I mean it to be a serious question as otherwise, without a solution, it would spoil the joke.
Tks,

Roby

My guess is that the model uses two pics for the pilot's face, one for mapping the right side, one for the left, possibly at an angle both. Have a look at the other texture sheets including the large ones and see whether the face is embedded someplace else. Alternatively, successively create a black copy of each texture and check in the sim or better still in MdlViewer for a black version of the pilot, that's your cue then.
