• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello !

Just started a new project last night, Cipieres Altisurface in the southern French Alps.
I discovered this « hidden » field while flying arround in the area, not an important traffic rate but enough during summer to make it an interesting place to get in our sims.

Also what brought me to start the project is the challenge of another sloped runway like I did it with Valberg Altisurface which looks pretty great. (link if you want to see more !)

With the experience of this previous scenery I already made some little vegetation mapping instead of some big squares that we generally use in flat scenery which would give here kind of a stair weird looking rendering.

So there you go for the general preview with the 30cm/pxl photoground already customized located right over a stiff slope.
trees placement is also interesting to work on, the valley add lots of perspective to the screens btw

General aviation static planes add life to the field, with fuel tanks and characters,

Closer look on how the vegetation actually look like :

I’m pretty happy with this right now, still thinking about giving it a more dense look by adding objects because framerate is really good in this mountainous area giving me some more freedom on my work.
(Notice the random typical mountain flowers that I made too :D)

What do you think about it ?
I am obviously ready to hear any advices on the little bit of work that I already made regarding vegetation !

Now the big problem would be to work on the main buildings, there is like 4 hangars and google earth give a clear view of the global structure so 3D would be doable.
Now for the textures I could be able to find some that may looks like how it is in real but with the poor informations avalaible right now on the internet I can’t directly work on phototexturing ...

Have a great week !

Looking great, I still have to get your previous works!

Looking at google earth there appears to be power lines to the east of the runway, could be an interesting and vital feature?!

As for the buildings, I was looking at google maps to see what the nearest town is... Could you try get in touch with someone in a nearby town or someone who flys in and out of the field for photos?

The alpine flowers and grass looks great! Keep up the awesome work :)

I saw them and of course that I plan to work on them but I don't really know how to create them right now, power "towers" are ok but what about the wires ?
Someone have ever experienced power lines here ?

The nearest town is the Cipieres village, but still far away from the airfield. It is not very far from where I live so maybe I could try and go there to take my own pics, I'll see.

The grass looks lower than in my scenery btw, this tractor on the left is there in every picture and seems to be kinda emblematic with its flag, it will be included soon with the little white spots on the runway before starting the building modelisation. Looks close to my P3D rendering !

I believe @Dimus is the creator of the fantastic freeware Locher which has some great sets of powerlines that need navigating on the approach and takeoff of the field. He may be able to assist in sharing knowledge and technique. Collaboration is a great thing.

If it's not too far it would probably be well worth heading there to take some photos, it might help you really refine the scenery! :)

With your grass, I think it looks fine, it just hasn't been mowed in a while. If it really bothered you, maybe the 3D grass and flowers could be off to the sides of the main runway where there is less use and the photo texture represents the shorter appearance of grass on the main runway surface.

It is looking really good so far though!

Yeah Locher is an insane piece of art !
Thanks again.

I found this down website : https://ulm-altitude.fr/index.html which provided a good picture of Cipiere main building, with web archive I managed to get back this image, probably one of the best that I have found,

Guess I can work on a back side texture with textures.com library, but this give me a clear view of how it is looking like !

This dude approached the field with an ULM and uploaded the footage, also interesting

Ok I found a nice looking high power tower in the default FSX scenery objects, without wires of course but it is ok for now.

Also worked on the little runway indicators, from far away we can now clearly see the runway;

Still gotta add some bushes, trees in front of it but it is starting to look great !

I ended up by going directly on the field to take some pictures, with this I was able to make some way better textures and to find out what were the real shapes of each hangar.
It is always a pleasure to work on this kind of Mountainous airfield with mesh and building integration !

Here is the link on my website if you want to see more : https://www.vario-design.com/cipieres-lf0652?lang=en

Or directly on Simmarket via this link : https://secure.simmarket.com/vario-design-cipires-altisurface-lf0652.phtml

Thanks again for your support :)

Alex I hope you keep making these. I like this part of the world, fun little airports.
