• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Connecting ADE to FSX?

@StayinArrive

Those 2 bgl files that were marked in red above, need to be copied within FSX: SE (Steam) so that it can read/ update the airports.

You will need to create a folder named "Addon Scenery" at this location: ..\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\FSX\Addon Scenery\

After you have done that create 2 more folders within the Addon Scenery folder (1 named "scenery" and the other named "texture")

For now, so that you can test them, place both of the ".bgl" files (that I marked in red above) in the "scenery" folder.

After you have done that you will need to make sure you add the Addon Scenery folder into the Scenery List. If you have any questions please ask before doing anything.

All of the that was already in place.

As for adding the Addon Scenery folder into the Scenery List. .
I presume the Scenery List means the folder with the numbers 001, 002, 003...etc. I did that.

However I'm back to the same problem now as before with opening the project
This is where projects are to be saved (C:\MSFS\FS Design Tools\Airport Design Editor 175\FSX\Projects).......but when I try to open one I just get my documents folder again!

I just might forget all this and go back to just flying. The only reason I worked on KEKN is I was born in Elkins and one night when I was about 6 years old my father got a call about a pilot in distress near that airport. He took me with him. 30 or 40 others had gotten the same call and the cars lined up on either side of the runway with their headlights on. Dad brought the pilot home with us and he stayed with us for a few days while repairs were being made.
Actually, I remember him returning several times to visit, A very long time ago.

Thank you again..

When you try to open a project, you are using File/Open Airport? It should look for .AD4 files, which should be your projects' filename extension. The Scenery List is the listing of layers in the Scenery Library, not the folders on your hard drive.

If you decide to continue... we are here to help. Just ask! :)

Good morning Doug. I thought I had posted this yesterday to Tom. Anyway there's been some progress.

I found that if I click Project > Find I can open my airport instead of being sent to my Documents folder. So that's not a problem.

I was able to add some parking spots with taxipaths that compiled and appeared in the Sim.

However, with airport objects that I delete or add sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I added some vehicles on the terminal apron and it worked, but, for example, deleting or adding a building doesn't. I deleted a hangar and added a building where the hangar was and ended up with both of them joined together. Another example is moving a fuel station. When I saved and compiled I ended up with 2 fuel stations, one where I moved it and one where it was in the stock airport.

I recall Jon explaining a long time ago there was something that had to be done first (an exclusion maybe?).

The other problem is the Tower viewpoint. In the stock airport it was about half a mile away in the woods, and all you could see was trees. I moved it nearer to the terminal and it worked fine. But yesterday it was gone. No big red T anywhere and still you can only see trees. The online help feature said right click on 'center on airport tower'. I did and nothing happened. Is there some way I can create a tower viewpoint or do I have to start over with the stock airport?

I appreciate your patience.

Sometimes when you do not follow the usual methods and loading orders, ADE will get mixed up and not exclude the default buildings, as you are seeing. I don't know always why this happens, but loading an airport from the BGL file can definitely cause this problem. If you load a stock airport, you always save the AD4 file and use that for editing, never loading a BGL file into ADE.

So now you have two choices. Start over with the default airport, or live with your current situation. The workaround is to create exclusion rectangles in ADE for every building and object you want removed.

The MOST usual reason why an object that you thought you had deleted but appears in the sim after compiling is that you have more than one compiled bgl in your scenery folders. The easy way to check this is, when in ADE, select the Tools dropdown and select 'File Priority Analyzer'. Check that your airport ident is in the 'Ident to find' box ans click on 'Scan'. Within a few seconds you will get a listing of all of the files that will be displaying your airfield. Some will be the original default files but you need to take note of the ones containing the airport ident. You should only have ONE of these.

The tower viewpoint can be hidden underneath other objects, like taxiways. I know of no way to get it raised up above them.

Did that got this maybe it's root of my problems?

So what's a valid folder? I created one named scenery_cfg. Compiled and checked it out and it was empty

The correct scenery.cfg would have been created when you installed your sim - you don't create one yourself.

Follow Doug's instructions in ADE.

I didn't create a scenery.cfg file I created a folder to hold it per the instructions given by File Priority Analyzer (attached).

As for being created when I installed FSX that would have been about 10 years ago.

No, when it says "...set a valid folder ..." it does not mean create one somewhere, it means locate the one that was created when, in your case, you installed FSX:SE.
As per Doug's message, you should find the folder (probably) "C:\Program Data\Microsoft\FSX-SE". You find this by clicking on the '3 dots box' as highlighted by Doug then navigate to the aforesaid folder and click on it - this should enter this location in the strip-box to the left.

(Okay, this shows as a reply only because I was going to a couple of weeks ago but didn't.)

To update, I have ADE working as it should. I uninstalled it and reinstalled

I've opened a couple of airports made minor terrain changes and object placements or deletions and they are properly reflected in the sim.

However, when I open the KEKN stock airport and make one or two minor changes it doesn't work. In fact there are a couple of buildings that aren't even in the stock airport, two fuel stations, the tower moved that I had moved before.

How do I find a remove everything related to that airport that I may have changed in the last 10 years?

Use the ADE Priority Analyzer to find out what other airport files for that airport are hiding there. Then do a search of KEKN in your FS folder to find any other files.
