• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Connecting FSXGET > FSX > Google Earth

Having trouble connecting to GE. FSXGET does connect to FSX though.

I found this by jvile in a thread from years ago. I was hoping he was here today, but maybe someone else can answer.

1. open FSXGET;
2. click FSXGET icon on taskbar (bottom right), select Run FSX and wait for connexion;
3. do the same and select Run Google Earth;
4. if Google Earth wont start, launch it by itself.

In step 2 the Run FSX option is faded and not clickable. My hunch is that's because I'm running the Steam Edition and FSXGET can't find it since his instuctions predate Steam

I wouldn't have bothered you guys if I knew how to point the app to FSX which is here....

C:/ProgramFiles(x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/FSX

As I said, FSXGET does connect to FSX automatically and I would have thought that when GE was started manually the connection would be made, but it doesn't.

Can anyone help? (I hope the answer isn't too simple, it would be embarrassing... but I'll take it anyway.):)

I first start FSX, then FSXGET and after GE. Generally it works but sometimes not and I dont know why. If dont, I close GE and relaunch it.

I think I tried that after seeing your post in another thread. I'll try again but I still believe it has something to do with the app not being able to find the Steam Edition. If I remember correctly the app is open source so maybe I can download it and find the link to FSX and change it. Or, as a last resort, I still have the boxed FSX Deluxe discs that I could install in some other folder and use that for tracking. It could get messy though.

I used FSXGET a long time ago to show all players from a server I ran at the time on a Google map.
It worked great.

How are you opening the .kml file that FSXGET creates?

I never open KML file generate by FSXGET. The only KML files that I know are generated by Google Earth, Google Earth Pro and Google Maps. I also know is that KML files can be opened by theese three apps.
