• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

conversion tools

does it exist some conversion tools that converts from .3ds or .gmax to files that FSDS3 can use? I've found one at Simviation.com Aircraft Design. G-Max but the link doesn't work, and I also found one at FSDome.com as well but the link here to doesn't work here either.
Does anybody know about other conversion tools?

okey... thanks...

But I can't find .dxf as an options at the export at gmax... how do I make the file a .dxf file? Do I need another conversion tool?

Gmax doesn't natively support DXF export, you'll have to find another tool to do that for you. I believe there are several that exist, try googling it. Then you would feed the DXF output from that tool into the CVA converter which would then turn it into the FSC format.

DXF is a pretty handy format, but it is far from perfect. It was originally designed for engineering use so it doesn't support animations and such.

One of my many current projects is a Maxscript tool for 3dsmax/gmax that exports everything straight to an FSC. The FSC format is super-easy, I already have it figured out 100%. I just haven't gotten around to writing the code that actually does the exporting yet. Unfortunately I still have a lot left to do on this project, and it is a relatively low priority, but I should have it finished SOMETIME in 2007. :stirthepo

Until then, you'll have to put up with the DXF limitations. But all in all I still have to say that the CVA converter is a nice little tool.

Sean, that would be an extremely useful tool for the die hard FSDS freaks (present company included) who port stuff over to gmax, abuse it and then back to FSDS. Even if it just converts the mesh to fsc/fsp, in a relatively "clean" form and oriented, that's peachy...
