• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Convert Line to Poly --> Poly Invisible?

Having an issue with 3DS Max 2012. It's one I've encountered before, but was solved by changing the color of the poly (of all the solutions, it'd have to be that). But this time, I'm not seeing resolution.

I've used the line tool to add vertices and bezier those vertices to create a taxiway. After I was done, I converted the line to an "editable poly" as usual, and applied my texture. Even with a UVW Map, the texture and the poly remain invisible. You cannot select the poly within the graphical design interface, but it CAN be selected via the list.

Help resolving this, or at least a reason for its occurrence, would help. Not looking forward to re-doing the poly.

Attached image shows the issue at hand.

Hi,

The first thing, what would come in my mind would be a not closed Spline. There must be only one endpoint (white vertex) to be able to convert it to Epoly.

Kai

The spline is completely closed. That was a good thought, and one that did not occur to me before. Perhaps I had missed that. But in this case the spline is not open. I've made some smaller closed splines in the mean time and have converted them with no issue. Is this a limit within Max that I hit, or perhaps the geometry isn't playing nice with the conversion?

You need to close the line, by clicking the line vertex you first created it will ask "close spline" or something, click yes, then convert to E-Poly.. but if any point of the spline you create overlaps at any point mainly from stretching/curving it around too much it will not create a poly.

When I have something acting up like this, I select all Vertices, then weld them at 0.001 and usually that clears up things.

If you need to, add a zero in there; like 0.0001.

Side note; on Max settings, did you know you can go with a lighter colored background on your Max theme? Go to Customize/Custom UI and Defaults Switcher/UI Schemes (right side, top). You can then select the 2009 version and others that are a light gray color, rather than a nearly black background.

You probably already know that, but in case you didnt, that might help. Helps me with seeing parts better for some reason.

Unfortunately, welding the vertices didn't help either. I think Avia might have it, but I have no proof. I deleted a few portions of the spline which involved some more complicated beziers, and the problem seemed to fix itself after that.

But no, I did not know about being able to alter the background color like that. I'll have to try it.

Thanks for the help guys. Just have to go back and redo the sections I left out again. Bummer when that happens.

Make sure that if you close the line, that the line don't overflow itself. That is the problem. ;)
