• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Creating an island (again sorry) - FSX crashes

I am attempting to create an island in a body of water (standard FSX scenery) near to a fairly complex water airport I created using ADE together with animated boats using AIBTC (both of which work fine).

Somewhere I was 'pointed' to FSX KML and after reading a document on 'creating islands' using Google Earth kml files I created a kml file containing polygons for -
Exclude water
Water body polygon tagged Hydro_Polygons_Generic_Lake_Perennial
Island polygon tagged POLYGONHOLE
compiled and added to Addon Scenery/Scenery together with my bgl file for the water airport.

On attempting to run FSX it takes forever to load the scenery and when it gets to about 60% it crashes.
Removing the bgl file created by FSX KML it once again works ok.
I tried removing the 'exclude polygon' and recompiled which made no difference.

What am I doing wrong?

Is my problem caused by a conflict between my water airport scenery and the FSX KML compiled bgl file?
Is it possible to add an island to an existing (fsx standard) body of water and is it possible to have the compiled bgl file for the same area as an ADE scenery bgl file which also contains a water polygon (which fixes the shorelines in FSX which are incorrect)?
Thanks
John

Hi,

I dont know if this will be usefull, but it is perhaps a question of layers order. The best ordering I found for my Halong scenery is :

Exclude Roads (exclude the FSX road on CatBa)
Beaches on islands
Local landclass (villages, cities and crops)
Global landclass (exclude shorelines and landclass for islands)
Lakes and rice fields (or fishing bassins) on islands
Sea of all the scenery
Islands (polygonhole)
Exclude water

Have you tried FSXKML scenery alone?

Thanks guys.

Sorry I have 'moved on' (a few weeks ago) from FSX KML and now successully created my scenery as required using sBuilderX.
Also I have learned a lot since then (use Ocean Perennial now instead of 'lake' especially when I zoomed out in Google Earth and found that my water body was actually a very long inlet see image below to better understand why I originally thought that I was working with a lake.

I should have 'closed' this post. Thanks again for your input.
