• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Creating Flight Plans from Timetable Data

PS. I'll be back later today - I am operating my model railroad club's layout for the public. Duty calls...

Development Release 2.2.11(h) is posted.

It cuts-off flight plans at 99 legs and starts another with the 100th when the Least FPs alternative is selected. It's far too complex to implement for Balanced modes (at least today). But, the whole concept of balanced should prevent very large FPs.

As for automatic assignment of aircraft, the algorithm first collects all installed aircraft for the designated airline and/or that use the designated parking code(s) - multiple codes separated by commas . Then it picks the aircraft type from a leg and tests each of the collected aircraft for that type embedded in the aircraft title or an exact (case-independent) match on ui_type.

There are no matches with the aircraft you sent me because the type in the timetable is DC3, DC6, etc, but the ui_type in the aircraft.cfg files is DC-3, DC-6, etc. As well, the titles generally contain DC-3, DC-6, etc. Change one or the other and all the required aircraft should be automatically assigned.

Hope this works, because time is getting short.

Hi,

I'm back.

When I click on the Development Release menu choice, I get a box saying "No Development Release Available".

EDIT: Got it - new release version available.

OK, now using version 2.2.12. As expected, it does not find any of my aircraft. It does properly limit the legs to 99. Instead of 14 aircraft, I end up with 19, a reasonable number. There are no "closures" for 6 of the flights, although when I try Flight Plans/Validate it says no errors. I can check the Deadhead Closure box and it does create the 6 deadhead flights. They are scheduled to wait the length of time I have entered into the ETD wait time box, which is OK.

Since there is no flight number, you might want the deadhead flights to use the Reg. No. instead of the Flight Number?

Thanks,

That will be the first update to 2.2.13.

EDIT: Sorry. It's not so easy. Use of Reg No vs Flight Number is done on a flight plan basis, not per leg. I think you'll have to "suffer" the current situation. Is that a real problem?

Hi,

I edited my plans file to DC-3 and F-27 for aircraft types. Now I do get the AI aircraft listed automatically, along with some flyable aircraft of the same airline and type. There does seem to be a bit of a bug, however, For the F-27 I have three choices, and I need to delete two of them. I select and delete the first one, that's fine. But the F-27 in the drop down box does not remain (it's now blank). So I re-select the F-27, which now has two choices left, but they are gray. I cannot click on anything except the drop down box and Continue. I can no longer delete any aircraft.

Hope this helps,

Tom, I've just run your Aeronaves file with parking code set to AMX (no Airline). It generates three DC-3s (I changed the aircraft code in the timetable). I'm able to delete them without difficulty.

Please send me a timetable and the aircraft.cfg files for the aircraft involved in your run. I'll get to it when I can.

Hi,

Sure, no problem.

This graying out happens most of the time, but occasionally it works fine.

Hope this helps,

I can always change that deadhead leg manually to use the Reg No., no problem.

Tom, I am unable to duplicate even using your latest files. Could you try again, please and, if its repeatable, write down the procedure so I can do things exactly the same way as you do.

Don

Edit: Tom, something just occurred to me. Are you deleting both at the same time? (I didn't try that and I won't be able to until at least tomorrow.) It should make no difference, but who knows?

Hi,

No, I deleted them one at a time. I'll try it again and see if I can get it to do it again. As I said it doesn't happen every time, just once in a while.

Thanks. I'll see the sights rather than test further (until I hear from you).

Don

Hi,

I cannot get it to do that again today, I'll try again later.

However, I did come up with a few other problems in the Aircraft Assignment box, etc.

Here is what I did. I used the plans I posted above, and the WCA aircraft I sent in the attachment above, so no changes there.

1. Open AIFP fresh. Flight Plans/FP Editor. Files/Open Timetable Data File
2. Open the plans I posted above - I called them plans_wca59_AIFP.txt.
3. First problem - when I restart AIFP and want to open the same txt file again, AIFP does not open up to the folder that contained that file last session but a instead the previous default folder location ,which never seems to change. If I use Files/Open Flight Plan and change to the proper location, then that becomes the default location for Open Timetable Data File.
4. Then I set up the resulting dialog box:
Airline: West Coast
Parking Code: WCA
IFR
Flight Number

ICAO

Local Time
Flight Number: 2
From: 3

5. Press Continue button
6. In the resulting A/C For Assignment to Flig... box:
DC-3 - only one listed, the correct one.
7. Used drop down box to choose F-27.
Three listed:
AI F-27 West Coast
F-27A West Coast
Fairchild F-27A West Coast 1966
8. Choose F-27A West Coast (second one), click Delete button.
9. Problem - the drop down box is now blank. If I now press the Add button and add a plane, it will be included in the aircraft file, but not used by any plans. There is often no way to delete this resulting aircraft, unless the "blank" choice is listed in the drop down box (sometimes it is, sometimes not). I would think that after pressing the Delete button, I should still have F-27 displayed in the drop down box.
10. So I must re-select F-27 from the drop down box.
11. The resulting list has two aircraft listed. The AI F-27 West Coast is now missing, and my deleted F-27A West Coast is still there.
12. Problem - it appears that the Delete button deletes the first aircraft listed, rather than deleting the selected aircraft.
13. To get my AI F-27 West Coast back, I have to delete all the aircraft (making sure to re-select F-27 in the drop down box each time), and then use the Add button to add my AI F-27 West Coast to the now empty list.

Hope this helps,

OK, it grayed out again

In the above protocol, I changed step #8.

8. Choose the Fairchild F-27A West Coast 1966 (last in the list) and press the Delete button.
(do NOT reselect F-27 in the drop down box - leave it blank)
9. Now select the F-27A West Coast aircraft (now last on the list).

The choices in the dialog box gray out, and cannot be selected.

Note that this does not always work when you reload a plan, only when you start AIFP fresh.

Perhaps this is related to the problems I listed above, and will be fixed when they are taken care of.

Hope you are enjoying the sights,

AIFP does not open up to the folder that contained that file last session but a instead the previous default folder location
Easily fixed.

it appears that the Delete button deletes the first aircraft listed, rather than deleting the selected aircraft.
It would seem there's something unusual (and intermittent) going on with aircraft delete. I'll continue to investigate.

Don,

I did post another message about graying out (post #56). You posted at the same time so I don't know if you saw it. So this is a bump...

I have found and, hopefully, fixed both issues. I'll test it later and make a development release ASAP. BTW, it's just an aircraft display issue; your instruction were "obeyed"; it's just not being shown. All you need do to alleviate it is go back to the FP editor and re-generate the flight plans. The last entered changes to aircraft should have been preserved and be reflected in the newly-generated aircraft lists.

Tom, I've just posted development release 2.2.12(a). It should resolve all you reported difficulties. Also, you'll notice that AIFP now saves most of the front panel entries, providing continuity from one pass to the next. Backup 2.2.12 before installing the development release. I've only had a limited opportunity to test.
