• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Creating/Importing Mesh

Hi.

You can export a terrain mesh directly from Global Mapper to Gmax.
Because I can.

For Global Mapper is specifically and
the Pro Terrabuilder

Sorry for my English.

Greetings.

hey guys,

I'm kinda stuck with this tutorial, I can't figure out how to get the aerial file in GeoTiff, where can I get Aerial/satellite in Geotiff? I have global mapper and i have the DEM map in geotiff extension.

I have the mesh file in Shaded Gradient, but I can't find Geotiff extension of satellite images for Mauritius.

Any know a place where we can find free or do I have to pay for those Geotiff aerial?

Hey,

I figuered a way out how you could do it, not sure if it works, never did this myself:

Download libgeoGUI, extract the geotiff information of your DEM map, slice out imagery of Google Earth which fits to your DEM Map as good as possible, save this image (maybe combine several images in Photoshop or somewhat to reach a higher resolution or to cover a bigger area) as a TIFF and add the GeoTIFF information to it that you extracted from your DEM Map bevore which should fit your satellite image quite exactly.

One problem could be that your DEM map has to have the resolution and size of your final satellite image!
No problem -> extract the geotiff information with the tool, load the DEM Map in Photoshop as it loses all geotiff information when beeing edited, scale it up and resize, save as a TIFF and add the saved geotiff information!

Then continue as described above.

Hope this helps but as I said: Never did this, just based on some ripped knowledge about geotiff ;)

It's difficult to get geotiff images, and for Mauritius could be difficulto too, normally you must find a site, where the servers could provide with this aerial images, usually governmenta, the wms servers.

After you downloaded the DEM data, you have four coordinates given so isn't it possible to note them, mark them in google earth and export the image surrounded by these coordinates?
If the area is to big for a single image-export you could export as many images as needed to fit the area, each overlapping one another.
Then merge them in photoshop and slice them to 1024*1024px tiles after the geotiff information was added and resize/resolution changes were made...

btw.: It is easier if the area is rectangular of course.
