I've been working on building an airport using 3ds Max in FS2020 (see thread here on the FS2020 forums for screenshots/updates) and I've started work on the taxiways using projected meshes (see the latest update). I have a few questions regarding creation of the taxiways (and possibly eventually the runway, though the default is sufficient for now):
Thanks in advance for any help!
- The mesh for the taxiway surfaces are created from splines converted to a polygon/mesh) - it seems to work fine in the sim itself, but is this an acceptable way to create the surfaces or will it lead to problems down the road?
- I want to add taxiway lines in 3ds instead of with the default SDK tools; is there a way to "combine" these lines with the surface (so that it becomes one object) instead of placing them slightly above the surface mesh?
- The splines themselves are a massive headache because I'm having issues either combining the endpoint of a line with a vertex of the line it should be perpendicular to (the vertices won't weld for some reason; fusing doesn't actually connect the lines) or extending a new line from a vertex the first line. [This question is a bit difficult to word, if need be I can explain in more detail what I mean]
- How to I "extrude" an open spline to only a single plane (i.e. 2 dimensional with a width component and no height)? I can't find a loft modifier anywhere (only sweep) for a spline.
- When I finally get to texturing the lines, how do I texture them in a way that I'm not stretching a single bitmap over the entire length?
Thanks in advance for any help!
