• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

CTD's

I have an XML Avidyne and XML G1000 set of gauges that for a very small
number of people cause CTD's.
Usually these people have ATI cards and/ or strange mixes of memory sticks,
as opposed to matched pairs. I now have a guy with a matched pair and a
nVidia card.
I and our beta testers do not get these CTD's.
The gauges make use of XML transparency and also bitmaps with alpha
transparency. I'm guessing that the transparencies are the cause of the
problem, but like I said, that's a guess.
Anybody here know what may cure this problem?
cheers,
nick

You sure it is related to your XML gauges?

Try newest (and sometimes older) video drivers for their card.

It might be their card doesn't properly support all the shaders etc. FS uses. I'd check that their cards are supported, and do a search on the MS knowledgebase to see if the issue has a resolution.

Nick, I had the exact same problem with my Garmin XML gauges, wherever I used "transparency" or "transparent" in any of the various places...

Since this problem only affected a minority of people, I simply built an alternate set that replaced the "transparent" bit's with bitmaps where possible, and removed the "transparecy" attribute from string displays.

I had a very extended exchange with Susan Ashlock (ACES Panel/Gauge Lead Developer), and this was the fruit of those discussions.

As Patrick noted, it is apparently an issue with particular video cards, and likely either hardware and/or driver related.

I've also learnt that people have an odd mix of memory sticks working together and non matched pairs that seem to agrevate this problem.
