• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA cubemaps upside down ?

I'm trying to make reflection textures, I made a cubemap (or something similar), and it could be good enough but I think the image is inverted or it's my impression. the sky is at the bottom, and the ground up, at least it's my impression. Y tried to rotate the image but then all is messed up.

What are you using and how are you placing the images? and what are you using to convert it to a dds

This is the format a cubemap should be in:

Right ---- Left ---- Top --- Bottom --- Front --- Back

or

PX --- NX --- PY --- NY --- PZ --- NZ

and what that means is : Positive X axis --- Negetive Y axis so on and so forth

also make sure each frame or pic is 512 x 512 bringing the total to 3072 x 512.

Also each pic does not have a mipmap or alpha.

Yes, I use that pattern, Right - Left - Top - Bottom - Front -Back. I use the Nvidia plugins for photoshop.
Not understand about the positive and negative axis. though I don't understand very well the full process either, but experimenting I see the work coud be good enough, but what is annoying is the upside down image. if you are near enough you can see the sky but at the bottom. weird really. I put the images as I got them, I just respect the order and just that, export as cubemap. 512x512

think of yourself in the center of the cube,... its weird,.. yes,.. also keep in mind you also don't want to have white space or something way off (like a mountain and a tree, on the other side of) to each of the sides touching the others.

If that makes sense,... did I understand correctly you made it a 512 x 512 cube or do you mean each pic is?

ohhh one other thing to remember all of the pics have to be the same size,... like all 128 x 128 or 512 x 512,.. you can't have one like at 128 x 128 and then another at 256 x 256 etc.

all most be the same

It would be 512 x 3072, but I have to say not rotate a cubemap, just flip them. :D, I just discovered the issue, but as you can see, the cubemaps for me are as a mistery, but flipped them and worked. great steps, right now what is a problem are the edges, not match very well, but I took the photos from inside Fsx, just turning the camera of fsx. so can't be very accurate. :o:D
greeting and thanks for the interest.
