• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Decal Number.dds

In both P3D and FSX/ FSXSE, the default Cessna Skyhawk has a texture that I tracked down in Model Converter X as Decal Number.dds which "paints" the registration number of the aircraft from the aircraft.cfg and I want to do this on my AI T-6 Texan II which are traffic at KNSE and KNPA, all 124 of them. I could just blank out the registration and the MODEX on them and not have any but if it's possible I would like to have each one different on the aircrafts without entering 124 different files. Can I use this texture on them and how? I don't actually understand how the program knows how to determine them.

The number displayed is the registration number in the aircraft.cfg file, or that if changed in the select aircraft menu. The mapping of this texture is in the model itself, and thus it must be designed into the aircraft at the time of creation. It might be possible to build such a polygon in a program like blender and then merge it into your aircraft using MCX, but I’ve never heard of anyone trying that.

Thanks Tom for the reply, I was afraid of that but it was worth asking. It probably isn't worth the effort. It would look a lot better that a long row of aircraft with all the same MODEX. I actually don't care about the actual registration because it small and has to be looked for but the numbers on the tail and the nose are VERY visible. I may just delete them from the aircraft texture and leave them blank. Gotta sleep on it, LOL. Thanks again.
