decompile seasons.bgl?

Hi all,
Long time no post! After a hiatus, I'm back trying to code my snow-cover application. Basic summary, I can use various freely available sources for real-time snow cover to create a seasons.bgl reflecting actual hard-winter conditions.

The problem I'm having is creation of a replacement default seasons.bgl that lacks hard-winter where data is available. Is there a simple way to decompile? Is there a source of free monthly images that would be suitable?

Any thoughts a plus!

Hi Scott,

sorry, don't know of a way to decompile the default seasons.bgl. However, you should be able to use a similar approach as with land class files, meaning transparent cells for which you don't have data.

Then again, you're probably trying to get rid of "false positives", i.e., inappropriate hard winter calls in the default seasons file.

There's plenty of climatological data available online but what is really needed are detailed phenology maps (i.e., onset of spring) and I haven't been able to find any. Thus, I use elevation data in combination with latitudional bands to develop my custom seasons files.

Cheers, Holger

That's exactly right, Holger - and thanks for the reply!

Do you know of (or have) a high-quality wgs84 geographic map of north america that has a resolution corresponding to a couple of pixels per LOD? I might hand draw a series of monthly seasons overlays just to test the application...
