• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Deleting stuff

Hi there, first of all thanks for putting in so much time to make such an excellent tool.

I do have a little grip.

I have found it is all too easy to delete things accidently when editing things like taxiways.

What i have found is that when editing taxiways/vehicle paths that run over aprons that in my haste i have accidently deleted the apron, and with the inibility to undo at the moment, this can be a real problem if you have just made a complex apron shape.

What i thought might be good is if the "Delete" part of the editing window was in an different place, becuase at the moment it is right next to the Edit selection and all to easy to accidently hit Delete instead of Edit.

I know it makes me sound incompitent, but it is frustrating. :o The other option is to have delete only via the Delete key on the keyboard.

Actually i have also found it is all to easy to accidently move the apron which can also prove to be very fristrating with out the undo functionality.

Cheers mate

Well, the issue is that whatever command you give is only relative to the object that your mouse is positioned over at the time... just because you have something selected doesn't mean that's what your menu is for. (*it's already been reported*) :)

I am removing the Delete option from the right click menu. Future versions will delete objects using the Delete key only. Hopefully that will help :)

I'm not sure what you mean about moving aprons. You can't drag a whole apron, only the vertexes when the apron is selected.

I expect so :D But why would you want to drag one around ;)

Sometimes it is easier to work on the shape of an apron after having it pushed aside from to many things were you can click on by error (parking spots, taxi ways, ...). Afterwards you drag it back to were it is supposed to stay.

Cheers,
Martin

I support Martin's argument on this, in AFCAD it was often necessary to work on the apron some way away from other objects. This particularly applied to aprons next to runways because once the vertices had been placed they were impossible to move from under the runway.

... you can click on by error (parking spots, taxi ways, ...

To avoid this and other delete problems I Have in my ADE's wishlist a lock or freeze (layer or item) option.

Jon, Is it possible?

Yes it is possible to lock - it is not implemented but should not be that hard - I will add it to the list. Bear in mind that the Undo/Redo function should be available in the next release so if you accidently delete something you should be able to get it back right away :)

This thread appears to be refering to aprons and how it is too easy to delete and not be able to drag.

The word Apron is a little misleading because we have learned to use them for many different reasons.

MS applied a default flatten to the apron based on the ARP elevation which makes it very useful for many type of texture applications.

If I have a airport that is in a hilly area I can use aprons drawn as a road that cuts a path through the hill. Aprons are also used to add gravel or any type texture around scenery guids such as the runway antenna's or on airport VOR' etc. Alot of us use a apron to draw Asphalt borders around runways and taxiways to give them the correct apprearence.

In some cases as stated the apron must be made away from where it is going to be placed and then dragged into position. In other areas we use the crosshair of the airplane position to drag a apron when using as gravel to reposition the center of it in respect to the scenery guid it sits under.

As you can see I also advocate the use of being able to drag the apron around and make it much harder to delete.

Jon, will the Undo/Redo be a command list or a simple last item only?

The plan is for multi level undo/redo. It is currently in development

I will look at implementing a lock mechanism based on object by object locking

I will make aprons draggable:D
