• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Desperate For Help

Hi,

I hope I am not breaking any rules by asking if anyone out there can help me with a Helicopter for P3D4.5.

I am a member of a UK Military VA who are about to move to P3Dv4.5 full time as the sole platform at the end of the year.

I use an Alpahsim Future Lynx (wildcat) model, which was orignally FS9, then ported to FSX.

This model is not compatible with P3D and I am desperate to try and have it available as a SQN helicopter.

Can anyone help to either convert the model or design a new model wildcat for P3D for which I will pay for your time ( a reasonable fee is all I ask ).

Many thanks in anticipation, message me here.

Best regards - Karl H

Don't flinch, I only want to point out that posting your e-mail address in the open isn't a good idea, unless you have a very good spam filter. Best practice would be to invite people to contact you via private message and then work out further methods of communication.

Have you tried converting the model with ModelConverterX?
There is a learning curve, but as you can not break the original model in the process, converting via trial&error is a valid method.

A new model from the ground up will very likely not be affordable for you or your squadron mates. We're talking development costs in the thousands of dollars if paid at anything resembling market rate for hundreds of hours of required work.

Heretic,

I really appreciate all of the advice, thank you.

I will definately follow up what you have suggested, and I understand that developers time is just as expensive as any other professional, so maybe I am a bit too naive and expecting too much ....

Best regards - Karl

Not too naive at all, at least on this coincidence. The coincidence is that most developers would not be able to touch a previously released addon and re upload it, without the authors permission. However, Phil Perrott has released all Alphasim/Virtavia FS9 to the public domain, so sharing edited versions is allowed.

Hi Karl
It maybe of interest to you that for my own use I have a half converted G-LYNX, I just haven't done the difficult stuff.
Which exact MDL file would you ideally like to convert?

Hi Essex, unfortunately I have no experience whatsoever of P3D modelling, so I cannot answer your question ... sorry for sounding dumb, but I am a potential customer for a complete model, as it may take me a long time to learn the skills you have, so not sure I will be successful in my own development of a Wildcat model. I do have some assistance from my own Virtual Military Org, and that's looking promising, so thank you very much for your assistance, it is much appreciated.

You'll be needing a Deano then, Karl. I should be able to sort it for you when I get a spare moment - I spoke to Bob a week or so ago and he mentioned your Helo force but didn't say anything about conversions. As long as Phil at Virtavia has stated that editing is okay, it shouldn't be a problem mate ( he let me convert their F-8 Crusader recently and is a very friendly and helpful chap ) :)

Deano/Essex,

thanks for all your help, great to hear from you Dean, hope you are well.

Best regards - Karl

Very sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I wandered if anyone managed to do anything with the old Virtavia AW159 in the end? Been trying for years to convert it without much success.
