• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Differences between FSX and P3Dv2 scenery design

What are the major differences or things that work in FSX and don't work in P3Dv2? I was looking for a list of those changes but can't find one.

Another aspect are night textures.
Night textures designed for FSX are too bright in P3D so you have to make them darker. I do that by adding a half transparent black layer on top of all other layers.

Hi jdberg,

Plse can you help me with making a nighttexture from a original jpg?
I have some textures in jpg format which are converted with MCX to dds format. The 3d object looks good FSX and P3D. Now I want to add nighttextures to it but it does not seems to succeed.
Working with Photoshop Elements 11.
Any help is appreciated.

It is a bit difficult to understand what exactly is your problem. But I try to give you some general hints.
As a night texture you also need a dds file as you already have for the day texture. Make the day texture darker and place light effects with PSE 11 as you like.
In MCX you can add that texture in the material editor under "Nightmap texture". In the attached example it is texture: EDFM_2_TR_BUILDINGS_01_LM.DDS
I still use the name convention _LM for night textures as it was used in former sim-versions. It is not mandatory but for me it is easy to see what are night textures.
