• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi,
I was wondering, as a simmer, if anyone leave the DirectX10 preview on all the time in FSX. One of my potential customer said that he always leaves it on all the time and not going to buy any product that is not DirectX10 compatible.
I know that DirectX10 preview is a bad news more than help. Is it still true?
How about P3D? Is it compatible with DirectX10?
Thanks for your comments.
Regards,
Tic

Ah jtanabodee, your poll comes to the right moment! I read a lot of informations about the updated DX10 mode here, however I do not trust this "update" but I wait until a few more people tested it out since my FSX is now running like a charm in DX9 mode. Personally as developer I would always try to make it compatible to DX10. There is a bit more development needed, but this (the compability to DX10) will surely attract more people no?

I was reading over at AVSIM I think where a simmer had done a lot of tweaks. I think there is a file d/l available there which combined them all. I tried it but was not happy with the results so I uninstalled. One less thing to tweak. Plus I am edging into P3D and v2 will support DX11 so for me it's why bother.

I've recently moved over to DX10 because of the increase in FR's for me. The addition of Addon Converter X (ACX) has fixed most of the problems of missing textures in FS9 AI aircraft. The freeware shaders3 has also fixed a number of things so for me it is well worth it (Unless of course I could afford a brand new super big rig :) ) Not everything works with it, but lists of what does and what does not are appearing on that Avsim board.

And how do the custom groundpoly's look in DX10 (at dawn or dusk)?

Transparency overlapping fx?

Emissive bloom?

etc etc

An equivalent performance boost on my system is gained from lowering the AA and filtering settings under DX9, which I don't need to do.

DX10 is a favourite of some non-developers, but has too many bugs to be useful.

The concept of "developed for DX10" means "Tested in DX10, and not found to be overtly flawed"

I agree with you hcornea. It seem to be a cheated way to make it look like a good option.
User always ask for this, then I direct him to this web site and see how developers feel about this.

FSX DitectX 10

I have a processor with four cores and after removing the limitation that prevented use 4 cores at the same time the FSX going smoothly. Then I've enabled DirectX 10 following the instructions posted in this forum and I have noticed no drop frames. Furthermore Corrected a dll that was putting it directly into the system in the FSX directory which has helped me to avoid crashing simulator and stabilize frames.

Do they fix the above issues?

File Description:
DX10 Shader Fixes V3.1.0, replaces v3.0.0 - These are a set of shader fixes for DX10 Preview mode in FSX. The patch should not effect DX9 in any way. It addresses the following bugs in the DX10 preview:

1) Flashing runways/taxiways
2) Yellow/white runway markings transparency
3) Opaque chain fences
4) Progressive Taxi markings missing
5) Missing night scenery/semi-transparent dusk scenery (often misdescribed as missing night textures)
6) Some addon cars with black headlights
7) Softer VC shadow
8) Eliminates false sun on VC roof and side wall

Someone could say it's working good ?, would be good news.

So it sounds promising, doesn't it?.
Did you try that yourself, Tejal Bernardo?
How do you find it? Does it solve all the issue?

Recentrly GaryGB have linked the threads about this issue, in Gmax section, very interesting http://forum.avsim.net/forum/569-dx-10-discussions-hints-and-help/, it's a must to see how Fx10 is working, still reamain little problems. but all the major issues have been resolved.People talk about airplane without lights, or problem with the rain, don't know just for fun we can try, it's important this issue were resolved for Fsx not left behind along other virtual systems.

Not sure about all this, installed the fixes, no warnings, no weird behaviour but not improvement. I'm very dumb for all this but y tried sweetfx , dx10 fixes, and downloaded nividia inspector, all seem correct but I not see any progress. very confusing all, I think fsx and dx9 is not so bad, but is important to get dx10 working for future development.
DX10 work in fsx but I only see a little improvement in the performace, and at the cost of losing all fx lights and the antialising.

I think it is better for lower end PC's. Older grachic cards and less powerful CPU's seem to gain most from it.
My FR's have gone up by about 30% ( not in all sceneries). Having the shaders 3.1 (freeware) installed as well as ACX (payware) which cured most, but not all, AI texture problems.
I wouldn't go back to DX9 now.

That's odd. I've been using this fix for some time now and have had nothing but great results with it. I mean, there are some minor issues still, but in my case it has gotten to the point where I play on DX10 more than on DX9. And for some reason I've found I'm able to get AA through my GPU even when it is disabled in-sim...huh. Weird.

Good to know that people moving to DX10 more.
One question, how to make scenery compatible to DX10? There is nothing inside SDK mention about Dx10.

In general if you make the scenery according to the sdk it should work in dx10 mode, especially if the shaders bugs have been fixed now.

I think I read somewhere that all scenery exported in a native FSX format will work in DirectX 10 mode. However, that being said, that means anything exported in an FS2004 format (including port-overs from FS9 to FSX) will most likely have issues in DX10. For example, FlyTampa Buffalo appears to work fine during the day in DX10, though at night the ground polys are grey and untextured and the night textures do not work.

Yes many great airplane from Fs9 which work in Fsx will lose his textures.
And don't like to fly without light positions in a cloudy day. or the runways night lights desappering in from of me suddenly.
But I have to say that I see a "little" improvement but yes any progress about frame rate is gold certainly.
