• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Disabling effects?

Hi all,
I fly MSFS2004 using 3D shutter glasses in combination with nVidia's stereo 3D driver which add a very convincing sensation of height. Unfortunately there are several effects which are drawn incorrectly at screen depth rather than the true position of the object emitting the effect (notably runway lights, and the blinking lights on aircraft). I managed to get rid of the aircraft lights by deleting fx_2.bmp, but even deleting the entire contents of my Effects folder didn't get rid of the runway lights. Can anyone tell me how to kill off this effect? (or even better, how to edit it to draw correctly in 3D)
Many thanks,
DD

Runway lights are not effects, they are more often, though not always, mdl objects built into the scenery bgl, so you will not be able to remove them or change them easily.

I think it may be possible to lose them by removing a texture - that was done for GW3 by Bill Lyons if I recall correctly. I can't remember for sure though and it obviously would remove the all throughout the sim which might be what you want

They are not effects, so you can not remove them like that (the lights are hardcoded in the scenery engine I think). But the suggestion of Jon is a nice one. I think the "halo.bmp" is the one you are looking for.

Thanks very much for the quick responses - deleting that halo.bmp file from the FS9/Textures folder did the trick :)
Cheers,
DD
