• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Does Living World Work?

I downloaded this program that is supposed to give us animated animals, boats amd vehicals. I installed it as instructed and it starts when FSX starts, I get a position and a whole bunch of exception 22's and a few 19's. I move the aircraft and sometimes it updates with a different position and some more exceptions.
How does this program work? I have emailed the author and have gotten no reply.
The link to it is: http://www.scenery.org/design_utilities_d.htm
Thanks

Hi Joe,

I haven't tried the tool, but from the description is seems you need to make a CFG file to tell the tool where the animated objects should appear. Did you also do that?

Yes... It comes with one... But that may be to use as a templete. I have it in the root FSX where he says to put it.
The directions a little muddy.
Thanks

Yes, the program does work. About mmm a few (maybe 6) months ago I remember trying this program out. The tricky part is making sure the exe.xml has the correct path for his LivingWorld.exe application.

Do you get a command prompt window to show up, because that would be the first indication of it not being set up properly.:)

And if I could get a little assistance (not trying to hyjack the thread). Testing this program out it appears that I presently do not have the sim.cgf file which should be in my FSX directory. So is there a quick way to find/replace this without having to completely reinstall it? Or am I looking in the wrong place??

Actually, I was looking in the wrong place. Since using this program I have reinstalled so nothing remains from my first attempts.

The sim.cfg files are in the SimObjects directory and are of course under animals. What I did before was use his default names and directories and voila, animals running amuck on my computer. :rotfl:

Actually, compared to some tutorials, his is rather straightforward and only fourteen pages. You treat the animal much like the aircraft tho' they are much less complicated (in the sims that is).

The animals are configured either like a vehicle, above ground but on the ground and the fish/whales are comparable to boats, in the water but on the water. So the files have to reflect this and he does all the ground work. So all you have to do is copy his example for the Elephant and use the exact same approach for the others.

Since I don't like addons in the addon directory, I will put his LivingWorld.exe in an animation directory but outside the FSX directory and thus I must modify the exe (or is it the dll, not sure at this point in time) xml file.

Hope that helps a tad.
