• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello Everyone, i have finally finished my model of a domed fountain, here is 5 screenshots of the completed model, this isnt to go in fsx so please dont comment saying it has too many polys as i will just ignore.i use 3ds max 2012 student edition as im 13 and cant afford to pay like £4000 for it. 2012 has a shodow feature so you will see shadows in the screenshots.

Thanks.

HOLY MOLY! When I was 13 I only did this kind of stuff:

Yep, this was my first fully animated FS aircraft I made after one year of having gmax... Of course, I never used tutorials to do anything... Because I didn't know they existed!!!

Very nice, Blake.

Looks like you've followed Ben's tutorial very well.

An airplane modeller in the making.

Sure hope he becomes an airplane modeler! If he can do that at 13 who can tell what's going to come out of his hands after some practice and a few years! It scares me!

Thanks Guys, the next tutorial i will be following will probably be a fire hydrant made by ben tate then probably finish my spiral stairs off, after ive completed these i will be going to make a car wheel with a tire and then an airframe launcher which i will leave till last.

Thanks,
Blake

Hopefully i will be starting the fire hydrant tommorow morning onwards, it should be done by the end of the weekend, monday latest, time goes really slow when watching video tutorials im constantly pausing and pausing etc but im learning alot out of it. i recommend people watch some ben tate tutorials they are fantasic! i will post screenshots with the next projects to come.

Michael the send picture of the house is very nice, what software do you use? 3ds max or gmax, and when did you start?

Thanks,
Blake

The model of the Triangle North terminal was built in 3DS Max. I then export to .3ds format in which gmax can read, then export this into .MDL for FSX. I use gmax for low poly stuff that doesn't require an inordinate amount of detail and also for ground work. I started using gmax in 2009 and got 3ds this year. I've followed relatively few tutorials because I'm hard-headed and would rather figure it out on my own.. :D

Why not simply export the .x file directly from Max? Why the conversion?
