• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Download Performance Expectations

I have a 1Gbit/Sec Fiber Internet Connection, so I assume this means that my maximum download expectation should be around 900Mbits/Sec. I am reinstalling MSFS after all the AI generated objects vanished, and seeing no more than 150Mbits/Sec. Obviously I am sharing the bandwidth from the source with thousands of others, but there are lots of comments on ZDesk (or whatever it is called) about slow downloads, but nobody ever says what a fast download figure can be expected.
Maybe I could get better performance connecting to server that is in a country where it is the dead of night?

2 - Here are a few links to up/download speed test websites, so you can get all assumptions out of your expectation about your Internet connection speeds
And start to make better decisions based on technical verifiable facts instead.

3 - If you want "faster downloads", you first need to fully understand:
- the entire physical connect path between your computer and the MSFS2020 download server location(s)
- where possible bandwidth bottlenecks / choke-points are located and what you can do about it

Why?
- If you have a slow (default) connection between your home and your ISP, it does not matter to what else you connect and how...
- If you have a shared connection (under a fair use policy) it helps to start download when everyone else is sleeping
but:
- If you ISP simple has choked your personal Internet connection to a certain fixed bandwidth_window no matter what others do (or not)
You just have discovered a pretty nice motivational goal to start practising p... a... t... i... :banghead:...e... n... c... e....

That is the reason why you need to technically speed-test your internet connecting first. Good luck with the downloads

150 is actually pretty good for MSFS.
Thanks Dick, though it is all pretty mute now, as I have fallen into the Xbox trap and can no longer download MSFS. Spend most of yesterday and all of today trying every trick I can find, but so far to no avail.

This is the slowest speed I've ever seen, but the figure I was after is what download speed other users are getting. My downloads are normally in the region 900+ Mbps. Patience is in short supply right now. Read my reply to Dick. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

the Xbox trap and can no longer download MSFS.
I am pretty sure there is an "easy" fix for this. By easy, I mean simple to apply, but I can assure you that I spent many frustrating days trying to clear this same glitch. The biggest problem, imo, is that most of the online solutions are crap. "Ideas," at best and you have to keep pawing through them, you know implementing each one, until it finally works - and some of them are downright whacked, again, imo. Without intending to add to the madness, I am pretty sure the solution is directory related.

For example, if you just delete what you have so far, it should work after that and with the download speed you have, content replenishment shouldn't be an issue. Alternatively and this is the solution I recommend, for manifold reasons beyond this glitch, you can set a download directory for your Community content, on any drive other than "C" and if you have no other drives, outside the default AppData location.

What has happened, almost certainly, is that you have a corrupt download. Ok, if I am mistaken, using the alternate directory does not delete any data, but resetting the download is what got me up and going again. Beyond that, MSFS has a habit of deleting the base installation upon updates. It is supposed to leave the Community folder, but placing it outside the default location, insures you will always keep your personal Community folder content and yes, I've been there too, already. Good luck sir.

It is finally downloading after 2 days of repeatedly trying small variations on all the Internet Ideas. I was studying a couple of xml files that DO download before it all goes pear shaped, and noticed a reference to Virtualization. I know this is turned on with my machine, so I just thought I'd try turning it off. I can do without my virtual machines right now. To my amazement, after cancelling the install and restarting, away it went. Mind you, it tried to place it on my C drive, which only has 36Gb free, bit that was a simple fix. .. oh! I shouldn't say that as I still have a lot of the download to do.

Great news! For a second I had been worried one of us might have had something to do with it.

1 - Congratulations @connomar

2 - This could be some sort of anti-hacking / anti-software piracy measure, where the installer-routine tries to detect if it
- runs on a 100% a bare-metal, "100% Pure Window Operating installation" image OR
- if fires up inside a hypervisor / virtual machine management environment
why? To make sure that the downloaded package only can be installed once on 1 hardware-platform
