• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Drawing Sources - ships

Using FSX/FSDS3.5 I am planning to create a model of HMS Eagle as she was 1964 to 1966 and am looking for a source of drawings (if there is one). I have loads of photographs (and many memories) but no plans/line drawings. Anyone any suggestions of a source?

Hi Folks

EagleIan -
Although slightly diff in build,
Eagle, (RO5), & Ark Royal, (RO9), were both Audacious class.

Don't know if you're aware there's already an Ark Royal, (RO9).
Created for FS9, but useable in FSX.
Download from - Skysim - Freware - Ark Royal by SkippyBing

Suggest having a word with SkippyBing,
as we'd discussed creating an Eagle version/paint.

Funnily,
just noticed you'd posted in - modeling Arrestor cables on Carriers ?

PS -
There's links to various ship related resources at FS-Shipyards

Thanks everyone for the replies. I did see the Ark Royal on the SkySim site. I served on HMS Eagle 64 to 66 and we had a lot of 'discussion' with the Ark Royal as to which ship was bigger! It culminated in a 'measure off' when both ships were in Singapore - I believe the Eagle won by something like 5 feet!! I will have a look at the suggestions and see what I can find. I already know the dimensions but may have to try and work from photographs instead of drawings.
Thanks again.
p.s. I know, Eagle/Ark Royal were dinkies compared to some of the American carriers but hey, we could still fly off some spectacular planes!

BAsys,
thanks again for the information. Just a couple of points re the HMS Ark Royal on the SkySim site.
1. R05 was HMS Eagle, not the Ark Royal (R09).
2. HMS Ark Royal did not have the Dustbin Radar (984) - looking at the thumbnail it looks like the picture has a 984 radar i.e. not the Ark Royal, more probably HMS Eagle.

I have not downloaded or installed this one yet (I am on FSX). If it is not the Ark Royal I will see if I can track down the creators of this model for a chat...

BAsys,
I know, I should have downloaded first and checked. I have now installed the Ark Royal from SkySim - it is the Ark Royal/RO9. It is the description and the thumbnail on SkySim that is incorrect.

Hi Folks

Ian -
RO5 was a typo. :D
EDIT - Corrected number and link to FS-Shipyards.

SkippyBing modeled Ark Royal,
I'd originally PM'd him to follow up here.

I think configurations changed during service.
Maybe ask Skippy if possible to tweak.

EDIT -
Ian posted whilst composing.

It would be possible to tweak the Ark model, but to be honest it was really more an experiment to prove the arrestor gear etc. in FSX. Considering the amount of changes you'd have to make to get a half way decent representation I'd say you were better off starting from scratch.
Plus the Ark model is ridiculously inefficient in texture use.
Ian did you have any luck getting drawings from the Maritime Museum?

Just received a list from NMM - they have 29 drawings. I now need to sort through the list and see which ones I would need. Most of the descriptions are obvious. Will keep you posted.
