• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Dust effect on concrete

Hi,
More and more problems come out and need to be solved in my VTSP project.
I'm not sure if this the right place to post but it involved Gmax too.

I made a custom ground with gmax and place it by using ModelConverterX.
I decrese size of taxiway in ADE to eliminate visibility under ground poly.
I used photoscenery in FSX which is wonderfully contour itself on the montain nearby.

But I get dust effect as if my airplane travelling on the dirt taxiway.

I did put concrete approns and make tag with drawSurface="FALSE" and drawDetail="FALSE" but it is still visible underneath custom made ground poly making photoscenery invisible.
I then swith to scam from ModelConverterX to make invisible hard surface. It came out GREAT. Everything looks fine except one thing, AI aircrafts are invisible aircraft (Pentagon should look at this, the aircraft is invisble without any special equipments.:D)
Very frustrating problem.
Could you advice me how to solve dust effect on custom groundpoly making with Gmax?
I read this http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18345&highlight=SCASM+runway+effect and it didn't help either. Since my AI's became Steath aircrafts.
Regards,
Tic

The only solution to have satellite image visible is to make another layer of ground poly and make it on top to the layers, like the way Bill does in his nice tutorial. But I don't want to add another texture sheet since I'm already used all the texture I have. I need to put a new one just for this purpose only.

Hi Tic,

Are your custom ground polygons partly transparent? Else you would not see the ADE apron/taxiway below it.

The only work around I knew is the SurfaceType SCASM trick, but I did not know that will make AI planes go away. That's indeed a very nasty side effect.

I wonder if you could made Gmax platforms to eliminate the dust effect? I haven't tried this, but it seems possible. You would still need to make the platforms less than 100 meters due to the round-earth problem.

Hi Dick,

That might work. Although I am not sure how good it is for the performance. Especially if you try to let the platform follow the taxiways properly the platform might become quite complex.

Use an apron "path" of appropriate width in your ADE file.

This should fix the dust, and not draw a surface.

Thanks guys for your responses.

Yes I did that. Because the satellite photo makes shades to the ground poly. This method can decrease repeated texture .

The complex platform can cause problem too. I did that for my project in VTBS (Suvarnabhumi Airport). It caused another airport about 40kms. away, VTBD blacked out (the whole screen turned black). When I removed the platform, VTBD was fine.

I did try that. Sorry, the program still draw taxiway underneath.

Why tag with drawSurface="FALSE" and drawDetail="FALSE" do not work?

You are using the wrong type of link. And yes (no?) the surface tag doesn't work. The "detail" one, from memory, sometimes does.

Can't remember if it's Apron path or one of the other link types ... but there is definitely a link type that does not draw.

You may need to experiment a bit.

I did try on that all of them even Steel_Mats, Bithuminus, brick macadam , coral, oil treat even unknown. It still draw the material underneath.

So, I make a satellite photo ground poly over it and make it semitransparent. It came out OK but quite a time consumming.

The LINK type is important ...

Not the material.

Use a different Link Type. Which link type are you using?

Sent from my mobile .. words substituted by iPhone at will.

I think I'll try to delete all the links and draw it again from scratch and see how it does.
May be something is not right from the previous project in FS9.
