• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

EDDF crosswind runways query

Jim,

I have another (and hopefully last) question for you.
It's all about xwind runways at EDDF. In that airport
they added recently a new runway (07L / 25R) and
the former 07L / 25R is now designated 07C / 25C.
So now EDDF has four runways, namely 07L / 25R,
07C / 25C, 07R / 25L and 18/36. Note that rwy 18
is used for T/O only and 36 is never used (in reality) in anyway.
Using xwind method I made parallel all four, all except
18 have properly ILS & their respective approach, but,
the outcome is that 07C / 25C is never used by FS9
ATC for landings, only for T/O (if I assign it through AFCAD).
ATC prefers to use the other two 07/25 and even 18 for landings
despite that 18 is assigned by AFCAD for T/O only.
In no way is 07C or 25C used for landings.
I am now asking you how to get 07C / 25C used by ATC for landings,
in order to substantially reduce the number of landings
on 18, which is assigned in reality solely for landing.
So, what's missing from the puzzle ?
That rwy designation transfer might have confused ATC ?

Thanks for your time.

Sotiris.

When you have 3 parallel runways the center runway does not get arrival traffic. By default FS vectors arrivals to the outer 2 runways based on heading from the departure airport.

There is a way to get a center runway to accept arrivals but you have to use the weight restriction code that FS coded and this requires changing some of the runway lengths.

You can trick FS9/FSX by placing a FS2002 runway on top of the FS9/FSX runway. That way the FS2002 runway looks like the proper length but under neath is a shorter FS9/FSX runway.

The stock EDDF uses a weight restricted runway but it did not work very well. Under the 7R/25L is a 6200 ft 26L/8R. This was suppose to handle the turbo prop type planes.

26L/8R was used for parallel landings with 7L/25R.
(the distance of 7L/25R and 7R/25L was to small for simultan landings to the west)

but thats no more in use. there is no more a 26L/8R.

check the newest charts from Eurocontrol:
http://www.ead.eurocontrol.int/publicuser/public/pu/logout.do

Since the new 07L/25R is for landing only, most of all starting traffic is now
on 07C/25C and thats a great advantage for fs9, because fs9 uses this (nearest) runway for starts ...

:)

xwind runways are no longer useful for eddf.
closing 18/36 for landings is sufficient. Some AI aircraft start on 18 because it is nearer from their parkings ...

really almost perfect now ...

Many thanks for the info to both of you !

Jim, just in case I ever need it, how can I use an FS8 runway on top of an FS9 one ?

Guenther, if this is case with the today's EDDF traffic pattern, this is really good news, as I have spent a long time to achieve an acceptable workaround....
But it is really remarkable that I see now on FlightRadar24 some flights departing
from rwy 18, even with a wind of 020°/10kts. They appear to be still in love with 18, however many new runways are built :-).....

Thanks again Gents.

yes, flightradar24 is a fine source of info ...

I suppose, rwy 18 is prefered for noise reduction reasons and because of a limited capacity of 7C/25C.

However, Guenther, I tested EDDF traffic without xwind and with winds 180°/15kts and sadly all traffic reverted to 18 both for T/O and LDG, which was expected.
We could delete 18, but then it would be unreal since it is still used.
On the other hand, if I use xwind, rwy 36 is used too with north prevailing winds.
What would you do then ?

There was no difference in spacing of 7L/25R and 7R/25L when you place 26L/8R underneath 7R/25L.

Was it more for approach altitude with same spacing?
Also 6200 ft runway is not very long for large planes.

Am I missing something

the distance was the same, but ...

the old 26L touchdown point was about 1400m shifted to the west (ILS, PAPI, Markers), so simultan parallel landings were allowed on 25R (old) and
26L (old).

which scenery do you use?

OK, so on approach the planes landing parallel to each other where at different altitudes on their glidepath.

The same applied to FS9/FSX if the user plane ask for runway 26L. Since the runway was only 6200 ft long ATC would not assign any type large jet (user/AI) to that runway.

FS9 worked much better then FSX and since runway 26L's threshold was shifted west we could set that as what appeared to be a intersection takeoff runway for prop type planes.

Guenther,

I use default EDDF. I found on avsim an AFCAD for it, but it was not working properly, so I reworked it almost from scratch, having added the new runway, renamed all taxiways and intersections and corrected ILS frequencies and approaches.
Could you please confirm Delivery, Ground, Tower (for all rwys), Arrival & Departure frequencies for EDDF ?

Sotiris.
