• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

Editing ASM files with FSX game pack ????

Hi everybody!
My name is Roma and I'm new here. Well I'm building a scenery for FSX on gmax and everything ok about modeling, texturing e exporting to FSX. It's working very well. I'm using gamepack for FSX, of course.
Now I need to edit some ground poly for to solve some problem about flickering. How I can do this? It's possible on gamepack FSX export to "X" files? There's a another way to export or to edit "asm" for FSX ground poly?

Thank you for help. And sorry about my poor english.

Hi,

No that is only possible if you export with the FS2002 gamepack.

Ok! But I can install gamepack 2002 together FSX pack in the same gmax installation? I have gamepack 2002 but I don't know exactly how to work with FSX gamepack. I tried but I got some error messages. Certainly is wrong!
I only use the gamepack for FSX. There's a way to solve this my problem?
Anyway thank you so much for you help.

Hi,

This article might help you a bit. Although it seems to refer to documents that come with the FS2004 gamepack (which I assume you don't have installed at the moment).

You can have all the different gamepacks installed next to each other. Each then has its own shortcut to start GMax with.

Thank you for the last answer.
I continue bulding my sceneries to FSX and I must to say that I'm so much better now.
But I have other doubt: The asm I convert to bglc_9. Not problem! But the Instant Scenery don't recognize in the library! Only bgl created from BGL Fs2004 or FSX, and BGL_9 it's from FS2002!
There a way to solve this problem? I would like to create ground poly with asm edited and put in the scenery with IS2.
Can I convert the asm file to MDL or BGL from gamepack FSX or gamepack FS2004?

Thank you again. Your last answer helped me a lot.

Hi,

If you make ground polygons with the FS2002 technique, the position (lat/lon) is stored in the BGL already. So it is not an object library and you can not use it with a placement tool like Instant Scenery.

Ok! Now I understand why! Thanks again.
There's a way to make a ground poly from FS2002 gamepack to be a MDL? Or better, make the asm a MDL file?
Thanks!

Nope. In FS2002 scenery was not a MDL. That is only after FS2004. But if you use the FS2004 or FSX techniques you can't make them proper ground polygons.

Wow! How it's hard to find a solution in my case!
Well, I’d like to thank you for your help, was very useful to me.
I'm very grateful!!!
Bye.
