• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Effect has its own offset?

Hi,
I have made custom taxi light with blue light effect on the model.
However I notice it has its own offset. I try to adjust that but fail.
When I move around, the effect light seem to move. Please see attached photos.
When I look from the north to south, it moves further away to the south.
When I look from the west to east, it is in the midline.
When I look from the south to north, it moves further away to the north!.
So it is not miss placement of the effect. It is the effect itself.

How to correct this?
Regards,
Tic

Is it your own effect or converted. Try changing the offset to 0.

Code:
[Emitter.0]
Lifetime=0.50, 0.50
Delay=0.00, 0.00
Bounce=0.00
Light=1
No Interpolate=1
Rate=1.00, 1.00
X Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00
Y Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00
Z Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00
Drag=0.00, 0.00
X Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00
Y Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00
Z Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00
X Rotation=0.00, 0.00
Y Rotation=0.00, 0.00
Z Rotation=0.00, 0.00
[COLOR="Red"]X Offset=-0.68, -0.68[/COLOR]
Y Offset=0.00, 0.00
[COLOR="Red"]Z Offset=-0.18, -0.18[/COLOR]

This is a common problem to FSX. It happens as soon as you install SP2 or the Acceleration pack. It is not the effects that is changing position, but the scenery objects! Here in South Africa, we have an offset in some places of 3 meters! Other places are fine.

I was up to know only aware of this happening in South Africa. Can you tell us where this airport is that you took the screen shots from? It will be interesting to know that there are other places affected by this as well!

The only solution I have its to adjust the position of the effect file in your design program until it fits in FSX. This means you will need to recompile the object several times and run FSX just as many times until it works. It's a matter of getting in there with a screwdriver and a sledge hammer and knock things about until they fit! :D

That is what I do over here! :whiteflag

Thanks for your reply, delivery guy. But the offset is 0 for all XYZ.
Do I have to do with the scale of the object?
Since the taxiway light's size is the same as the real one.
Do I need to oversize it and apply scale to the XML?

Hi,

There is indeed a bug that draws the effects in the FS2004 flat earth way, that makes them misalign with the FSX curved earth. So the offset should be minimal when you place the effect at the origin of your object.

Yes, Arno. I place the effect at the origin of the lamp. Each lamp has its own effect and place individually in the field. I didn't make boxes and do the effect script like in Wiki. I found that method cause effect to float if they were in distance from the center.

A bug again. I think I need to buy a pesticide and spray to my computer all over!. :D

Hi,

And each light is a separate MDL object as well? Or are multiple lights still placed in one MDL object?

I have placed effects without problems, but I it was manually, one by one, I thougt this things happened in large rows of lights, I made a trasparent box to attach de light there, in any kind of objects , above a crane, in a helicopter plaform, etc..

I use attach tool in gmax to attach the effect in the model then I exported and placed each MDL in ADE.

They were placed with Oject placement tool, but If you want them aligned then you must forget the OPt, any way right now I think Opt have an option to align objects, never have taken a look at this. :scratchch

No, the light and the effect are in the same MDL file.
Each MDL was placed by ADE.
No separated mdl for lights from the taxil light model.

One picture worths more than a thousand word.
Please take a look at the attachment.
If nothing we can do, please just tell me. So I don't waste my time to fix it.
Funny thing, if I put the effect to adjust the offset, it bouce back when I look the other way. Let's say, I put it to more +Y axis when I get into FSX, it looks OK in the north view. But when I go to the south, it bouce more to the north.
