I've modeled a ladder that I want to appear next to the Grumman Goose when the door opens. Now I made an FSX effect that calls for that ladder to be rendered. I used the aircraft smokesystem to emit the effect on the aircraft at the desired location. I wrote a gauge to activate that element in the smokesystem (smoke.2) when the door of the Goose is open more than 90%. That's what I have, and it works... Sort of.
Now, the effect will crash FSX because the ladder isn't preloaded. So my work around for testing was to place a ladder somewhere in the globe, then try out my project nearby. That makes it work of course, because the ladder is loaded into the scenery at that location. So I have a great thing going in this scenario. A ladder does indeed appear out of the door of the Goose when the door is opened, and disappears again when closed.
Problem is, it crashes the sim if I'm nowhere nearby the scenery loaded ladder.
I'm wondering if I place my ladder in the global scenery if it would be loaded into the sim, and prevent the crash? Does anyone have a suggestion on the matter? There has to be somewhere (not necessarily) that the ladder can be preloaded out of so that when the effect runs there's no CTD issue. Maybe in the autogen folder? IDK.
