• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I have been playing with fx files placing them on the fly.

Is there a way in the fx parameters where you can force the effect to stay visible in case you place it at a lower altitude than the terrain is?

Are you placing the Effect (*.Fx file) using BGLComp-type XML code ?

Please tell us in greater detail just what it is you are trying to achieve, as it is not clear whether you may be trying to utilize a Z-axis "offset" AGL from a placement RefPoint actually set below local ground level

...or if instead you are having visibility issues related to:

* the Effect parameters in the Fx file

...or

* within the parameters of the code being used to "place" it (in the BGLComp-type XML or SCASM placement code that is compiled to a BGL).

Thanks GaryGB

I am injecting via C Code, not documented so I am still working on the height of the effect when injected, if I put a height lower that the terrain it does not show.

I guess doing it via a BGL placement always places it on top of it.

I am trying to do this above.

IIRC, if one does not use a Z-axis "offset" AGL from a placement RefPoint actually set below local ground level, the object is effectively "excluded" from display at run time.

You may need to read the Ground elevation value at the object RefPoint and calculate a Z-axis "offset" AGL for the object you wish to have successfully displayed AGL. :scratchch
