• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Engine management and failures designer?

Hey all,

Does anyone know how to cause engine failures and manipulate power on aircraft?

For instance, when the temp is cold outside, and the carb icing isn't on, then one starts to get a freezing carb intake, so the power would begin to go, then engine failure. Another would be over-heating on a petrol engine, causing low power.

I have tried to do this with XML and could never figure out how to over-ride the input to cause percentage losses in the engine output.

I do not want to make planes that are impossible to fly, but it would be nice to have 'some' realism that normal planes have.

If you might know how to write code that can do this realistically, I would be interested.

Can't help ya there but thought I would throw in that it would be kinda neat to have aircraft accumulate wear-&-tear as you continue to use your bird. Like it needing a 100 hour inspection, annual inspection... maybe aircraft is forced to be unflyable while in for repairs.

ok... I'll be quite now. :o

I have wanted to do that. Mainly for oil changes and then rebuilds.

If only I knew how to do all the things that I dream of...

I'm seeing this as a possible addon module on something we've been working on. Wanted to investigate if this could be designed as some sort of default practice based on P3D (FSX) SDK's, or if it would have to be aircraft/developer custom specific.

Bill, I suppose the mechanics of carb freeze power loss are that the manifold pressure goes down regardless of the throttle position?

Can be done with C++, but I don't know how difficult would it be.
