• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Exclude Specific Airports Backgrounds Flatten: Not working?

I've created some custom blended mesh from a DEM (with "flattened" area set to a single elevation) for a modified airfield. Therefore this airfield doesn't need a custom flatten.

When I load the modified airfield with the blended mesh the [larger] flatten from the default (stock) airfield still causes "cliffs" far outside the exterior of the airfield boundary.

I've created a polygon in ADE larger than the stock flatten extent and designated it as "Exclude Specific: Airports Backgrounds Flatten", but this doesn't seem to work. What am I doing wrong? How else can I overide the flatten from the stock airfield?

I'm using ADE v1.47.7

Many thanks

Andy

I am sure that someone will be able to help. In the meantime (and it won't really help your problem) you are using an old version of ADE. The current version is 1.50.4402 :)

The polygon to exclude the default airport background needs to be "Exclude Specific - Airports Backgrounds Flatten Mask ClassMap Autogen"

That is what default airport backgrounds are - so using another type of exclude will not cause them no longer display/ impact the scenery.

Also, make the exclusion polygon much smaller - I use 100x100 ft. Locate it somewhere on the default airport you can easily see, but not over the airport reference point.

Also, I assume you know the addition of any polygon creates a _CVX.BGL file - which needs to by in the same folder as your modified airport file.

Hi Jon,

Many thanks. Yes, I did wonder about the version, but when I used ADE to check for updates it told me I had the latest. I therefore assumed v1.5 was in Beta.

Regards

Andy

1.50 has a new installer. It will update 1.47 but it is not recognized by 1.47 as an update - we changed the update method.

Also there is a beta but that is 1.51.....
