• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Export to .X missing in gmax

Hello,
I am looking for help with my issue. This is my first time I am using gmax for developing aircraft (before I used to use FSDS) and also first time with FSX SDK. I installed FSX SDK according to howto on FSDeveloper wiki (first from FSX Deluxe DVD1 -> after it two instalations from Acceleration DVD) but when I start GMAX by "FSX_GMax" from my desktop and I load my .gmax model I cant see the exporting to .x file in Export menu. I can export it directly to .MDL file but when I do it my gmax freezes. In SDK i read that I shall not use direct export to MDL but only to .X instead.

Does someone know what I am doing wrong?

Thank you for your patience,

Pavel

Edit: some screenshots from this Skyleader 600 project at www.brodhaq.eu ;-)

Did you make ready that you us dot instead of Kommata.

. this is dot
, this is Kommata

Maybe you will Change them like me.

The exporter will not run with Kommata.

There is no export to .x in GMax. Your only option is to export/save directly to .mdl format.

As Sandra pointed out, be sure you have your computer's Language Options set to use a decimal point instead of a comma.

Ok, I changed the decimal in my regional settings in windows from , to . and tried again export to MDL.

Result: a window appeared with "WARNING: Index buffer exceeds maximum size." but the MDL file appeared and seems to be working.

Thank you!

Pavel

But where can I type it? I just click File -> Export and I cant see the X file possibility...

Look at the screenshot:

I just said that there is NO "X file possibility" in GMax. The FSX SDK is describing Max procedures...

If you have the FSX SDK installed correctly in GMax, simply use the .mdl export option.

No, that warning means that you have at least one FSX Material with more than 64,000 vertices assigned.

You may need to make a "Copy" of the FSX Material, make a very minor change to something such as Specular Level, then assign the new FSX Material to some of that group of polygons to eliminate the error/warning message.
