Well, its been a long road to plow. I have officially produced a good Ambient Occlusion AO map, attached to the base source texture in Multiply, and I am ready to celebrate at 3:40 AM in the morning!!!
You do not know how happy I am.
The map has flaws in it, shadings where there should be none, but the basics of the shading has finally been able to be tuned and honed in to the amounts that I wanted.
I could never get them to work right, and also, the in-Max render window looks like a disaster, while the exported map looks perfect. I NEVER KNEW THAT... arrgh. I was going by the in-Max window this entire time.
Also, I found that the Samples, Max Distance, and Spread amounts were 'also' in the Render to Texture control panel as well as the Mental Ray material texture settings center.
whewww.... I was almost ready to go back to Gmax. I mainly purchased Max just for Ambient Occlusion renderings and getting them to work has been a major battle. It has scarred my eyebrows for life... :S
Now, to set up an appointment with that Swiss specialist who is in town next month and see if he can look at my fine, gigantic, metallic silver eyebrows and see if the damage is reverseable.
Personal settings (in Max for present project, not my own self) are;
Samples............ 200
Max Distance..... 2.0
Spread.............. 0.8
Im sure I'll keep changing these.
