• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX First Photo scenery and some questions

Messages

Hello Folks,

I made my first photo scenery (Nauru), and I have a few questions:

How to exclude the default terrain?
-
How to add autogen?
-
How to "overpaint" the pictures water with default water?
-
How to re-design the island terrain (that means height etc.)?

I already done the AFCAD, the background image and I added a few objects.

That's it.

Thanks in advance!

Is this FSX or FS9?

If you have a photoreal bglin your scenery I think that overrides everything else. Working on other sceneries with photoreal I noticed I can change nothing but maybe flattens.

I made or recreated islands before but shorelines not. I imagine it would be the same, keeping in mind qmid11 I think when making a poly with properties of ocean-perenial-etc. I shoulbe be more specific but can't at the moment. Then make another poly set as hole, make it the child to the first poly then make new shoreline. I can send instructions on this, but it's for making an island... most likely same process.

Exclude default terrain? Do you mean airport background? If you have photoreal bgl in your scenery dosen't that cover up any default terrain so you see only the photoreal?

add autogen? Wouldn't we use this if we are not doing photoreal? i.e. make polygon in SbuilderX. click on the edge of the poly - choose properties, scroll down clicking on each parameter to see what you want on the background and choose what you want. Select- choose all polygons, compile, place the new bgl into scenery. Water pics - not sure.

Hey jyarddog,

It's FSX. I should edit my questions, because the watermask has done the shorelines.
I already made an island, so I don't need the instructions :)

I mean with excluding default terrain the rest of the default Nauru island.

To your Autogen: This would be a good idea. I'll give it a try, but I thought, this will overpaint the photoreal background.

But thank you for your reply :)

Rgr on all that. Good! Might check with others but I think photoreal takes precedence over pretty much everything else. When I first encountered all this quite some time ago I tried to change autogen and other stuff I saw. No change whatsoever. I could change elevation but not anything else. Bob

You exclude the default terrain by excluding the default hydro-polys and coastlines then defining a new hydro-poly which matches your photo-coastline.

The easiest way to do this is with SbuilderX connected to FSX and with the background displayed.

To add autogen, use Autogen Annotator from the SDK.

autogen annotator- yes. I was studying that for a while then got waylaid doing something else.

Thank you!

Now I have to know how to use the Autogen Annotation tool...
Could anybody explain me that tool?
Sorry, I'm a newbie on this area...

EDIT: I'm looking on the internet for answers.

Und mir auch, aber Ich khan nicht autogen tool verstehen. Ok... so my German isn't too hot! :) Bob

Your german is better than my english :D

Okay, I figured out how to make .agn-files.
I put them (or it) in the textures folder, started FSX and the island was empty, so no autogen...

Vielen dank! Yes- all those windows come up and have to choose which textures or items..... I got part way through it with some help before I got busy with something else. I think it's all done with smoke and mirrors! :) Bob

You need to put it in the texture folder associated with the scenery folder containing your photo-bgl.

In fact, Autogen Annotator should place it there automatically when you save.

Thank you George.

Okay, I saved the autogen file in the textures folder of my nauru scenery, started FSX and no autogen is on the areas!

Also, I can't compile any terrain vectors with SBuilderX, like I set an exclusion polygon, and SBuilderX only compiled the photo scenery...
