• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi all,

I have just updated the forum software to the latest version. As you might have noticed this did not go very smooth, therefore we had some downtime. But I do think everything is running fine again now. If you notice anything broken, please let me know.

Before and after the forum software update cited above, FSDEV has been loading very slow, and now is throwing server errors:

FSDEV_Server_Error_When_Posting_Reply.jpg

IIRC, we have seen this repeatedly here in the past when a number of threads are posted with large screenshots.

Is this the basis of the current problems we are seeing again now ? :scratchch

Currently I am getting this error in (2) threads which have saved Drafts waiting to post:

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/t...n-using-ade-for-fsx.459364/page-6#post-931229

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/model-converterx-error.433528/page-2#post-931210

[EDITED]

Interesting that posting into his thread actually "worked" rather than throwing a questionable "server error".

I so very rarely see such errors. But usually a reload of the page fixes it.

Do others see it more frequently?

Arno.

First of all, thank you for keeping everything up to date, you and your colleagues. I also noticed the short outage, but I immediately thought that the forum was being updated in the background.
Perhaps I have a little idea that we will be informed in advance of the next update, so we can prepare better.
But it's all good, I'm glad that everything is kept "up to date" here :)

Do others see it more frequently?
No, everything works very well here, the site loads quickly and everything is displayed correctly. Like Garry, I use Mozilla Firefox (134.0.2 64-Bit).

Hi Arno:

Refreshing the page does not work; the above cited threads still show the server error, and will not allow the reply to post. :banghead:

Additionally, one thread still shows the saved draft, and the other has been lost even though I had requested it to be saved. :alert:

Has this forum been hacked by someone with an agenda ? :scratchch

UPDATE:

I was able to resolve this by 'cutting' and removing the saved Draft text, then posting only the word "test", then the reply was allowed to complete without the server error.

Next I edited the reply, pasted in the saved Draft, and then the reply was allowed to complete without the server error.

This is suggestive of a particular bug in the XenForo forum software that has been seen intermittently for years.

I has several scenarios in which it occurs, and most often requires an Admin fix of the MySQL database.

There are threads on this in the XenForo support forums; IMHO pertinent threads are found best with these query strings:

"XenForo" "A server error has occurred." "Please try again later." "Reply"

Gary,

Can you stop suggesting nonsense like this forum being hacked? You are the first person to report this issue in all the years we are using this software more. So talking about persistent issues, while you never mentioned them before feels a bit over the top for me.

I have experienced strange functionality on the occasion of attempting to commit posts. In one instance, switching between Edit and Preview obliterated my entire composition. It seems personal, although it also does not seem to rise to the level of a concerted attack, nor to that of a server status alert. Nevertheless, it does seem worthy of defining an established record of server dysfunctionality. So if you'll forgive me for opining, a functional search algorithm already has very rigid requirements for running a search. Specific words that interrupt that function are not a "feature," or a "fluke," they indicate a fundamental dysfunctionality that likely is not limited to retrieving specific threads.

Plus there is the matter of my blocked email notifications. It started after switching servers, which was very recently. Did anyone on this side do anything to clear that up? Because now I get notifications. If you did indeed pass my report on, thank you. If you did not, it reinforces the idea that the server, the site, whatever, is not functioning correctly and if so it kind of seems like yes, there are persistent issues. I reported it once and it did not stop right away. I saw no point in re reporting, I never saw any follow up to my report, so for me, it was a persistent problem that, luckily for me, gradually ended.

Thank you for establishing decorum for reporting server bugs. Please consider establishing the understanding that all reports are reviewed.

Hi Arno:

Bearing in mind that you requested we let you know if we notice anything broken; AFAIK, it is self-evident FSDEV forum posting is "broken".

Even more curious is that it affects my efforts to reply to posts by a particular forum participant who posts here frequently.

Gary,

Can you stop suggesting nonsense like this forum being hacked? You are the first person to report this issue in all the years we are using this software more. So talking about persistent issues, while you never mentioned them before feels a bit over the top for me.

I did not "suggest"; I asked what IMHO is a reasonable question- and not "nonsense"- based on not only this current issue, but other events, only some of which I have previously addressed in the forums here at FSDEV.

Are you ready / willing / able to state that you are confident that FSDEV forum has not been 'hacked' ?

If so, one might still wonder whether what we see in this scenario is a software bug, or configuration error that disrupts forum posting.

I believe it is reasonable considering the efforts I have made thus far to report this as a valid issue involving the forum software, that you would reply by now with an acknowledgement of the issue, and a status as to whether / what / when something may be done to resolve it.

I daresay most forum participants here may not be inclined to report 'perceived' server dysfunction at FSDEV for various reasons.

When I take time to report it here, it is with a goal of facilitating resolution of issues that occur multiple times, and under testing.

If I can, I identify whether others have reported such issues with the XenForo software, in the hope it may offer leads to simpler fixes.

Please be assured I appreciate the value of this forum and understand hardware / software / hosting may occasionally incur issues.

Please be assured I appreciate the vast amount of effort you personally expend to make FSDEV all that it is ...and may yet become. :)

All that said, here we go again...

Currently I am getting this error in another thread which had a saved Draft waiting to post:

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/roads-vanishing.459657/#post-931272

The option to save a Draft is now missing.

UPDATE: OK, now the option to save a Draft is no longer missing; this changes over time.

Posting a "test" entry into his thread, then replacing it no longer "works":

...attempting to edit and replace "Test" with content I intended to post keeps throwing a questionable "server error".

Additionally, when "Test" is posted and that reply commits via the [Save] button, it shows the elapsed time since it posted.

fsdev_server_error_when_posting_reply-3-jpg.95619

However, if I replace "Test" with content I intended to post, the post editor shows an apparent 'time countdown'.

Refreshing the page does not work; the above cited thread still shows the server error, and will not allow the reply to post.

UPDATED again:

I can add rows of numbers, but as soon as I post a link to this URL on FSDEV forum, a server error is thrown:

Code:
https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/flattens.425495/post-633002

NOTE: I also had to post any URLs in that thread- and this thread- via a CODE box, or a server error is thrown.
