• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I have just installed an update of the forum software so that we are running the latest version. As usual, let me know if you encounter any issues on the forum after this update.

The website seems slow here. Maybe not related to the update.

No, I got a report about the website being slow this morning and when checking the log I noticed that a new version was available. So I decided to install it.

I did also check the server statistics now, but things like memory, CPU usages and amount of processes is all well within limits. So not sure what causes it. Let's keep an eye on it.

I guess this might answer it. I don't think I have seen that many guests online before. Big question is what is causing this surge at the moment.

Yes, it's slow again. Almost 9000 guests online now. Which is much more than normal.

Yes, now it's ok. But less than 2000 guests online now.

Now it is going slower again

These immense number of user cannot be real user. A virus or something evil?
Sometimes the IP adresses can show the country.

Almost seems like a denial of service attack. Right now there are 4 members and 1900 guests online. Really? Did this site attract thousands of guests before this started?

One possible fix would be to limit the site to members only. Undesirable, but…?

I have been looking already if the forum software allows you to limit the number of guests , but that is not the case.

A guest is anybody not logged in. Bots from search engines normally show as bot, seperate from guests. But I think many of these guests are indeed agents or automatic models browsing the web.

Members only is not my preferred approach, as that would also hinder the bots and makes the site harder to find.

I don't remember what the normal number of guests was a week ago or so, but for sure not that high. I'll try to check if there are patterns in the IP addresses.

Now the forum is normal speed again, while we still have around 2000 guests. So the exact number of guests is not the whole issue. But somehow there is too much load on the server now and then.
