• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Frankfurt/Main Intl. (EDDF)

Well, I hope to get FRA finished asap. I'll work on it as much as I can. And I have no plans during my summer holidays by now, except FRA. Maybe in four, five months, we will be able to land there, I hope.

Hi all.

I played around with textures for the rwy edges, the rwy markings and the rwys themselfes yesterday. I didn't want to restart fs and reload the scenery after every change, so I made this completely in Cinema 4D, to get a feel about the alphas and their fading.

Just wanted to show you what I did. Still some details to add at the markings.

Once again: This is NO screenshot out of FS. It's rendered in C4D. No FS screen available at the moment, because I had an error with my layers in the files, but it looked okay to me (except this little error... :D ). When I had the error corrected, it was one o'clock...in the night...and I was to tired to fire up FS. ;)

Edit:
Forgot to add the new screens of concourse b. *g*

Still some white seams in the textures, but these will be corrected

Daniel, just been quietly watching you progress with this project over the months. WoW... a big project. Many would have dropped it a long time ago. As I am sure with many others I watch intently on how you will create your aprons-runways,etc as I am just learning about the "layer" method to dirty things up a bit. I take it you will use Gmax for that?

Thanks for sharing,

Hi all.

Added the first textured rwys for FRA yesterday.

Still not satisfied with the textures but I think it's a good start. I know...a UAL 752 in FRA is kind of weird, but I like the livery ;-)

oooops, there's some rubber on the runway... :D

Why don't you use ground polys for the runway?

"Burn baby, burn."

Er...these are groundpolys ;-) Maybe the textures look a bit like default AFCAD created surfaces.

I had y quick look at the runways in googleEarth. I'm astonished that the tire-marks really ARE that long. But I think they turn out too dark/black on your runways. But I may be wrong. ;)

These marks are really long. I have to refine them a bit, so that they turn out more detailed and not as dark as now. And I have to create textures for the runway markings. I want them to have a 3d effect, like they were actually painted on the concrete. Now they are simply white.

great work!!! How do you export it in Cinema4D to fs. is there an sdk for this? How about you toon looking renders of concourse C and D. What plugin did you use? its really slick.

great work!!!

Thx ;-)

How do you export it in Cinema4D to fs. is there an sdk for this?

Well, I simply export from Cinema4D via a 3DS File. Since standard C4D isn't able to unwrap, I have to texture in gMax. But für the future, I'm planing to buy Bodypaint and a new C4D version. Then I can make everything in C4D, except exporting to FS. I hope to get this soon, cause I had two file crashes while texturing concourse B. I backed up everthing, but I had to make some things again....

Cinema 4D is much more reliable in this. I never had a "couln't read file" with it.

How about you toon looking renders of concourse C and D. What plugin did you use? its really slick.

Well, it's a standard effect called "cartoon renderer", that came with my version of Cinema 4D. You can even use it to make wireframe shots. It's fun to play around with it a bit and it's something different. *g*

thanks for your help. I'm doing some scenery in 3ds max now. So i guess it should be simpler since its directly related to .3ds and gmax. Do i just texture it as per normal? UVW unwrap and stuff. Or do i need to redo it in gmax? i'm assuming i can do it exactly like gmax. is this right?

Well, I think you can do it all in Max. I'm not sure, but I think I heard about converting direct from Max to FS without gMax. But since I use Cinema 4D, I can't really say if I'm right or not.

thanks.with regards to your texturing. For the large terminal blocks. You repeat your textures a few times on a side instead of having a single large texture right? Will it have impacts on frames with repeating textures compared to a single large texture? And how do you know how high to make the jetway areas for aircraft. Do you have measurements as to how high the doors are? I'm still a little new to scenery design.

I think repeating a texture has less impact than using a real big one, as you need less memory (i hope). There is already another (huge) thread about performance issues ...

I also think, that using a tiled texture is more fps friendly, than a big one. FS only has to load it once and repeat it.

But now back to topic: Frankfurt/Main Intl.

The following screens are from yesterday. I wanted to wait till my new project website is up, but currently I have my scenery design, not my website-content-writing days. Cause a website just with pictures comes a bit weird in my opinion. So screenies now, website later :D And by the way: Concourse B is almost finished.

These screenshots are a bit of a premiere. I think these are the first official screenshots with some AI traffic. It adds a bit life to the scenery. *g*
I know, some things aren't perfect. I have some distorted textures and Lufthansa jets usually don't stand at terminal 2. The AFCAD file is just a test

...jepp and I spent some time in FS ;)

Enjoy...and I'll get some coffee. :coffee:
