• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 free?

Until it actually happens: Don't believe it! That's the only way concerning rumors.
 
Did you hear that rumor yesterday? Just looking at the date.

I doubt LM will make it free, why would they do so?
 
I thought I heard something to this effect a month or so ago. Their sales are in the toilet due to ms 2020, and they were going to no longer lend support and eventually make it free. I thought this was incredulous and thought I would ask.
I also wondered how MS cold sell flight sim to Lockheed then a few years later launch another flightsim which is in direct competition with LM!
 
You might be thinking of Milviz and/or Aeroplane Heaven ending support for FSX/P3D and making all related products free.
 
That might be the case. This is why I thought I would check here and not spread unwarranted rumors. Thanx.

I'd love to get some milviz products for free, even without support.

As far as I know they sold the EBS product to LM a few years ago. That was the professional version of FSX. So in a sense P3D is targetting the professional market, while MSFS is for the gaming market. So the two are not competing with each other directly. Although for a lot of FS enthusiasts that line is not so clear and they also use P3D.
 
P3D has a large professional userbase among military and flight training providers. It's not aimed at the entertainment market - though it relies on that market for most of its add-on support. Most leisure users (which is most of us) never see the professional features of P3D, which are unlikely ever to be free.
 
A licence is available for the full professional version but a) it's expensive and b) it contains a lot of stuff that (as Tim says) is of interest to the military and to training outfits, but not to us. There's a comparison table on the Prepar3D website.
 
Some of us aviation/flight sim hobbyists/enthusiasts fall in the twilight zone between "gamers" and those looking for military training sims.
Hence there is not really a "perfect" sim for many of us. Must compromise in one way or another.
