• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS Loading Time

Hello,
I post this question here looking for expert opinions even though the question does not deal with FS development.

Before I had FSX installed, the loading time of FS9 just depended on the complexity of scenery etc. The whole first part of loading up to "Flight Selection" always was very fast.

Now I have (on the same HDD) also FSX.
Now the first part also takes very long (nearly 2 minutes)
Unfortunately I have no recollection, whether this started to happen directly after the FSX installation.

Does any one know, whether this could be the reason?
Or is there another explanation or remedy?

Many thanks

Hi,

I have not noticed that my Fs2004 has become slower after installing FsX on the same drive. Could it not be that you added something else (addons?) to Fs2004 as well.

Also, if your entire PC has become slower, it might be useful to defragment your drive.

Many thanks, Arno!

I am not sure myself, what I did (added, changed). The FSX is the most prominent item which happened in that time span.
So I see, it must be something else.
I wish I knew, what FS9 is loading during that first part, till the window with Flight selection etc is halting the process.

Fragmentation - no, I do that regularily. And the PC does not run slower than before.
Well, I think I have to look closer, what else I added in the last months.

Thanks for giving me your time

Besides defragging, how much hard space is free on that HD? When a drive gets close to full, performance slows down.

My FS9 has loaded slow for the last year or so. The price I pay for all the addons I have installed. FSX seems to load a little faster, but it's not always predictable. Sometimes faster than others. However after I've launched it once, it seems to launch faster on later launches until the next computer shut-down/boot sequence.

Hello

as far as I know and based on my experiences with various addons, they influence only the second part of the boot sequence of FS9, i.e. after choosing a flight(or changing the contents of the scenery-librariy).

It is the first part of the booting, which has slowed down dramatically.

HDD free space: no, there is still about 40 GB available
RAM has not changed either (full 2GB)

No, they also effect the initial loading of FS9. A ton of aircraft folders is one of the slowdowns. Addon scenery, etc is another. FS9 reads through all this during loading up.

Coudl it be that FS9 is now finding FSX's scenery.cfg as well as its own, then using it to search for scenery files, that it then deems unnecessary in addition to the FS9 files it finds?
