• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX FS2002 Ground Poly Problem

Hi

I've created a ground poly using the FS2002 gamepack and it shows as it should in the scenery. However, objects that are below/beyond the poly appear to be "above" it, so it makes it look like the further away objects are bleeding through. Is there a way to fix this?

Many thanks in advance.
Will

I'm thinking we might need some more info:

Which objects are below or behind a ground surface? If it is truly on the ground, then nothing should be below it (apart from terrain). If this is showing then the asm files are perhaps not tweaked correctly, or the area not flat.

It would be worth investigating using ModelconverterX's Ground Polygon Wizard to automate the process.

Arno has made a fantastic tool for the FS community, it would be a shame not to use it.

It's not flat as it's part of a sloped runway. I'm using FS2002 gamepack to ensure I get shadows. I've also created a box which does the same thing:

ground1v.jpg

ground2.jpg

Basically the trees are under the box (the brown bit) so should be visible but instead shows above the box. Is there any way to get FS2002 objects to not show 3D objects through it like this?

No ... I don;t believe there is in FSX.

Always interested if someone else has a solution.

Groundpolygons really sre only useful for groundconforming surfaces.

You could use an FSX native solution with a platform, but that is quite a bit more compilcated.

I've got a mixture of both for this:

FS2002 sloped ground poly
FSX invisible platform underneath

If I just create a textured platform would that work for shadows and to remove flickering?

Clone the textured geometry and add a platform for the clone?

This should receive aircraft shadows.

It will not, however, remove conflict with the gorund terrain rendering.
