• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 aircraft mdl export

Hi,

The rudder issue seems related to a change I made recently to fix the rudder on another model. If you open the animation_mapping.ini file and then remove the line with rudder from FS2004_AXIS_CHANGE section the rudder will import as before again.

Code:
[FS2004_AXIS_CHANGE]
rudder 0,-1,0

I will make sure in the next release this line is removed by default.
Hi Arno!

Support of loading/importing old FS2004 mdl files is over? Did I miss an announcement about this?

Best,
Zlin142

Hi,

Not sure what your question exactly is, but importing FS2004 scenery and aircraft MDL files is still supported.

Hi,

Not sure what your question exactly is, but importing FS2004 scenery and aircraft MDL files is still supported.
If I remember correctly, I read somewhere on social media that some of the older features of FS2004 are no longer supported by the newer MCX versions. I have an original FS2004 model that doesn't have any special effects or features, and I'm trying to load it into MCX, but unfortunately, I can't. Yet a few years ago, I was able to load the exact same model into an older version of MCX without any problems.
I got these error messages in log:

Update:
I can load all FS2004 default aircraft models, except the DC-3 that gives me the same error messages.

These warnings about unsupported commands van generally be ignored, or are there other more serious warnings further down the list?

This week I still loading the default 737 when debugging an issue, so I'm sure that still works.

Are you using the default settings or did you for example change the setting that defines how user variables are read?

As I wrote before, I can import other default aircrafts, but I got some warning messages also, this is the B737 for example:

Only one default aircraft can't be impored by MCX, the DC-3. This aircraft produce the same circumstancias as my problematic FS2004 model.

I just did these tests:
Version v1.7 - The default DC3 loads OK
Version v1.8.2025.1221 - The default DC3 loads OK
Version v1.9.2026.0107 - The default DC fails with: value was either too large or too small for an Int32.
Version v1.9.2026.0625 - The default DC fails with: value was either too large or too small for an Int32.

As for the Zlin Z-43, no version I have opens that aircraft. That model was created using FSDS 2.24.
Version v1.9.2026.0625 - fails with: Unable to read beyond the end of the stream.

Rick

Let me check with the default DC-3 on my machine. I'll also try to test with the Zlin model.

There was indeed a bug in ModelConverterX with the default DC-3. It contained some incorrect (and very huge) texture coordinates and that gave the error. Will be fixed in the next development release.
