• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2020 scenery compatibility with FS2024

It's been some time since I last posted here and were in touch with people like GaryGB, Arno etc as I haven't even looked at FS for months but now I do for the following reason.

I created a few sceneries for FS2020 and uploaded them to flightsim.to a couple of years ago.

For unknown reasons I visited that website and noticed that my sceneries have been marked NOT compatible withy FS2024.
I cannot prove that one way or another as I have not upgraded to FS2024 and so not sure if that means that it won't even load or something else. I think that I saw somewhere that Asobo scenery objects used in 2020 won't work in 2024. Are there any other reasons?

Do I assume correctly that I need to have FS2024 installed to convert my scenery?
Can it be converted having just FS2024 SDK installed (that is if it is downloadable)?

Thanks

so....if your scenery works fine in 2020, it is probably already 90% compatible for 2024. So the non-compatible statement is probably too harsh. The only way to publish it as 2024 is if you state it was made for 2024 (using the 2024 SDK and making all the required updates). So yes, you would need MSFS2024 and the SDK. The SDK to process, and the sim to test it.

When you run the 2024 SDK on a 2020 project the first thing you will notice is that it wants to update a whole bunch of GUID numbers. This is a must as it includes standard visible and non-visible objects (such as animations). You will need to tweak ground textures for coloring/intensity, all light objects, any animations, LODs........

Its not hard, but it may not be necessary either. Has anyone tested your scenery on 2020?

David

Thanks David. Excellent advice.
Oh yes many people have tested it on 2020 and it works fine EXCEPT recently I was advised that one of my Blender created buildings did not display anymore. The problem I found was that a recent 2020 upgrade it seems includes a new auto generated building which covers my building and I have to enlarge the polygon which excludes auto generated buildings much larger than my building. That is annoying as I was taught that the polygon only needs to cover existing scenery, now it seems it needs to cover an larger area just in case Asobo releases a larger auto generated building.

Hi John:

Good to see you online here again. :)

I would be interested in knowing what the coordinates and GUID are of your cited custom building covered by a MSFS default object.

MSFS 2024 is a must-have for updating run time rendering issues with 3D models, and its many default scenery enhancements.
