• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

FS9 makemdl compiling problem question for arno

Hi everyone,

I am trying to make a windsock in FSX that rotates in the wind using the GMAX FS 2004 Gamepack. For this I used Arnos tutorial (Thanx Arno!). Everything worked fine tweaking the asm file and the object when placed in FSX rotates in the wind.

However the object looks like it's been welded together and is missing all the details. Thin wires etc have disappeared. I have read about makemdl doing this if vertices are closer than 4mm together. How can I work around this using GMAX?

Apparently there is a tutorial by Bill Lionheart but the link is no longer functioning.

Help appreciated

I know this happens in VC models, but I wasn't aware it happened with scenery? I believe that Bill's tutorial is for aircraft models.

What happens when you export it from GMAX and use it in FS without tweaking it?

Thanx tgibson,

I actually made a new basic model from scratch and now everything is fine. There most probably was something wrong with the original model, which I actually prefer and put a lot of time into.

Thanx!

You can always select parts of your old model and use Export Selected from the File menu. Then check if it looks OK in FS. Perhaps you can find out if only one part is bad that way and rebuild it.
